Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Quote from The Telegraph:

"The former first minister did not dispute that the court was correct that the definition of woman in the Equality Act 2010 was based on biological sex."

“Many of those who are on the other side [of the issue] say it is all about protecting women,” she told the festival.

“Isn’t it ironic that I have probably had more misogynistic abuse as a result of this issue than on any other issue in my entire political career. Go figure.”

I'd like to see some examples of what she means by misogynistic abuse and where it's coming from.

Is she suggesting that this misogynistic abuse is being dished out by women trying to protect their rights?

When JK Rowling called her a destroyer of women's rights was that misogynistic abuse?

I suspect that's the sort of thing she means. Not misogynistic, just anti- HER, which she considers misogynistic because she's still [?] a woman.

I do not understand why she is so determined to die on this hill. I can only conclude that somebody, somewhere is offering her big rewards for all this.

Brefugee · 25/05/2025 17:53

One of the comments is spot on: Well, she is right in a way-the definition of "woman" has been over-interpreted, just not in the way she thinks.

I'm surprised that she thinks that's worse than the stuff quoted in the Herald article I linked to. A woman calling her a destroyer of women's rights is apparently worse than death threats and the other abuse (from men) in those quotes.

What the fuck is wrong with this woman?

Why does she so wilfully refuse to see any point of view other than her own? Has she taken on board none of the criticism that’s been levelled at her? Has she really got the critical thinking skills of a parsnip?

CRITICEL THINKING BUTTERS NAE PARSNIPS

Humza appears even more confused if that could be possible. What is it with that lot in the SNP?

He comes across as utterly confused.

Humza seems to be suffering from Victim Syndrome. There's alot of it about nowadays. As for Sturgeon... Who knows? Maybe she's got a male brain.

rebmacesrevda · 25/05/2025 22:28

@RealFeminist

I want you to start a new thread, titled "AH'M WEE NIPPY. AMA."

CiaoMeow · 25/05/2025 22:29

Ghastly creature.

Hillsaremyhappyplace · 25/05/2025 23:22

Oh dear, what an absolute shambles. Ashamed to be Scottish, the state of the SNP.

GallantKumquat · 26/05/2025 01:16

@Hillsaremyhappyplace Was she not investigated for professional misconduct when she was a lawyer so she’s hardly an expert legal mind!

What's extrodinary about this case is that it involves the failure of Sturgeon to competently carry out her professional duties defending a battered wife from her husband, including: "not seeking a court order against her violent partner who was stalking her and failing to mail a legal aid application – despite claiming that she had done so."

Since the complaint was investigated and not upheld and the details of the findings aren't now known -- the client was reimbursed for her charges as a 'good will' gesture and Sturgeon left practice several weeks after the findings were published, one can only speculate at cause of the apparent failure. But one obvious potential factor would be a certain motivational blind spot in instances of protecting vulnerable women.
