Lady Hale "no such thing as biological sex"

"The 80-year-old, who is a member of the House of Lords, also questioned what was meant by “biological sex”.
“I was with some doctors last week who said there is no such thing as biological sex,” she said. "

In the Grain today

Apparently her daughter said,

“The idea that the trigger for all of this case was whether trans women should represent women in the representation of women on boards, I find heartbreaking.”

She said she would love to have “a talented trans woman sitting on a board of mine”.

Just, why?!

Biological sex is represented in every cell of your body and can’t be changed .

Nameychangington · 23/05/2025 07:40

What does she think makes her Lady Hale, and not Lord Hale?

User37482 · 23/05/2025 07:40

If theres no such thing as biological sex why the fuck did I carry my baby, should have got DH to do it. The gynaecologist didn’t even mention this was an option!

PruthePrune · 23/05/2025 07:41

Virtue signalling twonk

Bunderella · 23/05/2025 07:42

Thick as mince this one

What does she think makes her Lady Hale, and not Lord Hale?

Exactly. That's all that needs to be said, isn't it? Why come up with this idiotic pretence that we don't know what sex people are, that sex is complicated or difficult or exists on a spectrum, when she knows perfectly well that she's female, and has always known that she's female?

Perhaps one day they will come up with titles in the House of Lords for people who are neither male nor female. Lard, maybe.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 23/05/2025 07:46

Let’s not overlook the context in which LADY Hale said this: the Charleston Literary Festival, where punters pay upwards of £40 to hear “literary” people speak for an hour. You can’t get more exclusive or privileged than an event like this. Perfect place to air one’s luxury beliefs.

PS: how does she know her daughter is her daughter?? 🤦‍♀️

RedBeech · 23/05/2025 07:48

Which doctors told her there's no such thing as biological sex? How do they think procreation has happened since human life began?

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 23/05/2025 07:53

I’m thinking LADY Hale was referring to a person with a doctorate like this:

Dr in Gender Studies

Not a medical doctor.

soupycustard · 23/05/2025 08:21

No one's stopping the silly mare from having 'a talented transwoman on a board of [hers]' for goodness sake. And indeed if the talented transwoman was the right person for the board job and then didn't get it just because he was a transwoman, that could be open to a claim for discrimination under the Equality Act.
That's utterly irrelevant to the issue in hand. Which is that if the board was setting out to - for a reason compliant with the Equality Act - recruit a female member, the transwoman could not take that place. What with not being a female.
Ffs, this really isn't difficult. And really shouldn't be difficult for a judge of all people.

ClaudiaDark · 23/05/2025 08:26

I think it was her daughter, also on the panel, who said the quote about trans women sitting on the board. Anyway, I'm deeply disappointed by lady hale. I have her memoir. Not read it yet but I'll be taking it to a charity shop.

Rightsraptor · 23/05/2025 08:31

Please read the memoir @ClaudiaDark, and give us a review of it: it might shed some light on Lady Hale's odd behaviour.

And you (or someone) have already paid for it so Lady H has your money. Then take it to the charity shop.

soupycustard · 23/05/2025 08:33

@ClaudiaDark Ah I'd missed that in my fury! I suppose if it was her daughter making the ridiculous comment about wanting a transwoman on a boards, that's a touch less concerning than if it came from an actual Judge.
It still begs the question of why on earth her privileged banker daughter, privately-educated and alumna of Cambridge, lacks the intellectual ability to understand something that is genuinely not that complex.

RedToothBrush · 23/05/2025 08:34

FFS

How did she manage to have a grand daughter?

This is ridiculous.

Where do lambs and puppies come from? Nobody knows. Perhaps they are just sent by the fairies on a sunbeam.

And the female member might identify as a man.

Etaerio · 23/05/2025 09:16

"So, Lady Hale. When you had your daughter Julia, how did you and your husband decide which one of you would give birth?"

Ooft and very well said Mr Kavanagh!

Annoyedone · 23/05/2025 09:21

She’s batshit crazy. How the hell does she get to be in any position to decide anything.

It’s like The Emperor's New Clothes
Silly woman.

lady69 · 23/05/2025 09:38

This is like being a flat earther. She’s spouting nonsense.

ItsFineReally · 23/05/2025 09:39

Firstly, she said that reactions to the ruling have been knee jerk with some incorrect interpretations (e.g. assuming that you aren't allowed gender neutral toilets) and that she was hoping that there would be sensible conversations once the dust had settled. Not sure she can be described as a 'silly woman' for that.

As part of that, Lady Hale said there were problems with the ruling; suggesting that a conversation with doctors on how biological sex isn't 100% defined in science may result in inherent challenges with the law's application.

As to the idea that 'there is no such thing as biological sex', I'm surprised that you aren't already aware of this argument from the medical profession. Relying on XX vs XY chromosomes immediately presents a challenge as to how those with chromosomal anomalies, such as XXY and XYY or intersex individuals are treated by this definition.

maltravers · 23/05/2025 09:41

Her daughter is LGBT I believe…Family loyalty before rational thought perhaps? Yes, very disappointing. Trans people should be treated fairly, but that doesn’t mean TWAW or should take women’s places.
