I caught in passing on another thread that Kew Gardens toilets were now single ssex....

Does anyone know

  1. What they were before?
  2. What actual changes they have now made?

Huge thanks - really useful info if someone has it!

Off topic but I’m watching with interest as to how they’re going to sort out the toilets at the western in YSP 🍿

worst of the worst - a small mixed sex room with cubicles and shared sinks. How the hell it got so many awards I don’t know

The Weston - Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield. Gallery, restaurant

The Weston - Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Is designed to have minimum impact on its surrounding site and to fit sympathetically within the historic landscape

Most places of all sorts still have single sex facilities.......it really is only smaller venues and establishments who have single occupancy unisex facilities, and larger arts establishments ( because media and the arts are captured) who have gone with the trend for unisex. And as far as I'm aware larger unisex facilities with multiple cubicles and which have shared access areas are required by law to have integral washbasins in the cubicles.........

The new Aviva studios in Manchester, for example, is non compliant because its washbasins are communal. It will be interesting to see how they respond.

Anyone here in Manchester who frequents the Aviva studios?

I think all those operating under the mistaken idea that a single sex facility actually means single sex are in for a very rude awakening once reality hits...

I think most believe a sign will be put up if opposite sex / trans individuals are allowed or that the space will be marked as unisex. Lol.

The peaking will be gradual... then hard.

Or if they are lucky, facilities will operate as per the law and they'll go about their lives never knowing.

The ICA that I used to visit often for their movies turned their loos into unisex ones. I don't go there anymore.
