I've seen a few people on X claim they used to be GC until they learned better. In each case, they were usually American and by 'GC', they meant old school conservative of the 'boys shouldn't play with dolls' type until they evolved to 'boys who play with dolls are girls'.
I've never seen anyone who claimed to be ex-GC articulate any actual gender critical arguments. It seems to be people who don't really understand what gender critical actually is.

There was a trans identified woman who suddenly realised why it was all bs and she was a lesbian and joined a local feminist group. She got very involved with detrans things and did a lot of podcasts and a couple of media things.

then got heavily involved in a Christian group that was very homophobic and made her see the light again.

then went back to the TRAs and fully transitioned - the TRAs loved it.

however I know she was shown so much support by fellow feminists when in her terfy phase that she’d be very silly to bleat on on this. Also the majority of the feminist group were Labour and Green.

TERF until the day that I woke to the truly stunning and brave who glitter among us and are ever ready to dispense world class accessorising (former Fawcett senior figure M, iirc) tips in acknowledgment of the adoration and validation to which they are entitled.

It reminds me of an?undergraduate research survey that was on here a while ago. I started off in good faith and the questions went something like 'are you a TERF' straight to 'how long have you been an evangelical Christian, less than one year? more than 5 years?'. I ended up dropping out as it was impossible to give honest answers and just feeling bit sad at the lack of genuine curiosity or interest in the world that it showed.

On the other hand, I am certain that there are people who've gone 'the other way' in that they may remain privately a bit of a terf, eg slightly relieved that women's sport has been sorted out, but increasingly putting the weight of their belief in the basket of thinking that they strongly believe that feminism means being able to let go of sex as a factor, and that the practical issue of transwomen in women's spaces just isn't a problem; and most of all that the super right wing surge in this area is proof of the dangers of terfery. I know quite a few people who'd be in that category, though I don't think they would ever have strongly identified as GC.
