So first off we’ve had allyship training by a company that recommends Stonewall as further reading and now we have a full on Progress pride flag session to go through all the colours and design your own flag (yes this is for adults!).
Anyone got any ideas about how I can frame a complaint?

Suffragette colours 😂

Yes, they are? Can anyone explain why this is a protest?

Gettingmadderallthetime · 18/05/2025 07:05

@Theunamedcat Two reasons. They are associated with GC women protesting in the same way that pink/blue are trans rights flags. And unlike the trans colours wearers have been asked to remove them, even in a context where there were rainbow lanyards on display. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-63639814

these colours have been appropriated by the Gen detailed community as their flag. So perhaps showing how little women are consulted and how little of women's history is regarded. Reclaim the suffrage flag?

Why do you have to be lovely?

I will say, I think this thing with getting employees to spend their time on stupid shit is everywhere, not just with "queer" stuff.

Next month I have to go to a work training session where we will spend the whole morning on some kind of quasi-spiritual "blanket" journey. We are supposed to bring our own blanket. This is from an organization which only gives us one real training day a year - there are so many actually job related things we could do, and this is what they chose.

My org did a training day where all the departments had to imagine they were different parts of Disney World. Literal Mickey Mouse course.

bluenova · 20/05/2025 08:50

So many grifters in the world of training. The quality is so poor too.

I’ve written an email and will send this morning. I’m almost in official complaint territory due to the organisation only presenting one point of view. Thanks for the tips. Will see what happens

I think the microaggression towards LGB is a possible goer. More broadly you could maybe raise the question of whether or not 'strongly encouraged' Pride stuff could infringe upon individual rights to personal beliefs, or a business's ethical obligation to remain politically neutral?
Make sure you include the Merkin Seen Around the World on that flag 😁 pic plz.

I have wondered about this a lot.

I've mentioned this here before, I went to university with a very devout Catholic fellow, who went into business. He joined a company and worked there for years, there was really no crossover with his religious beliefs or practice, until about 2015.

After that, more and more, their training stuff and company charity stuff seemed to revolve around Pride and Queer related stuff. Not, from what I understand, because of any connection on the part of the higher ups, it was more a "cause of the day" situation.

It got more and more uncomfortable for him with expectations to go on a float in the Pride parade, use rainbow branding and such, that he actually left the job.

Years ago i remember a boss I had telling me that when they chose a charity to support, they basically tried to make it as bland as possible, so it would be something that everyone could support. And we certainly didn't have programs telling us what to think about socially contentious issues.

I always think this stuff is really over-stepping.

Design a flag just for women. Purple, green and white.

I was going to say a flag with a hand holding up four fingers with the number 3 on it.

Hugely overstepping.
There are countless social causes that only a genuine psychopath could object to - local foodbank drive, campaigning against drunk drivers, showing support for local school kids sports teams trying to get to Nationals or something. If a business wants to look good, why not something local and genuinely all positive?

forgotmyusername1 · 24/05/2025 05:55

If you are feeling brave and don't like your job much design a flag featuring JKR women fighting fund design and in the GC colours

Warning you may need to apply for said fund after

Agree Cerialkiller. Best option is to frame it as 'best avoid any legal problems / image problems etc'.

Rainbows make me instantly ragey now.

"Rainbows make me instantly ragey now."

You're enraged by the mere sight of a rainbow now? Really? You might want to have a talk with yourself about that.

Shedmistress · 24/05/2025 08:56

If The Shedmistress had been forced to attend this course she might consider waiting til they started discussing the pink and blue, taken out her phone, started googling 'who invented the trans flag' and said 'erm, I think you all need to see who this chap is before we proceed'...and get everyone to start googling what it is exactly is being pushed pushed here.

I imagine you’re familiar with the term triggered. Unfortunately for many rainbows are associated with extreme anti - women ideology.

Really? Could you give me some examples of oppressed minority groups engaging in misogyny, where it is not the direct result of attacks on said groups by those who don't believe they should be allowed to exist.

NextRinny · 24/05/2025 23:08

It's the return of the self combusting groups again... 🙄

It's like those toddlers who stand in the middle of the room, close their eyes and "disappear" in a game of hide and seek.

Mate they are all still existing no matter what anyone says. same goes for the sexed bodies they were born in.

It's because of the bullying and hectoring it's come to represent. You might as well ask why some people are upset by the sight of a Hindu religious symbol; after all, it's just an ancient religious symbol, right?

gingerelephant · 24/05/2025 23:49

I find such training quite bullying. If training is saying treat everyone equally fine but this training goes far beyond this, it is saying your thoughts have to adhere to this ideology. Your thoughts are your own that is nothing to do with you employer

Trans identifying men are indulged not oppressed. Women on the other hand are expected to not notice when their rights are removed.

Ah, of course, Winston Smith. I assumed it was some feminist arcana!

bluenova · 29/05/2025 19:33

So the defence was in a nutshell: they don’t have to satisfy all the people all of the time. They don’t monitor staff networks very rigorously. If I don’t like it I can set up my own network.

I’ve already responded - not difficult!

The response although lacking accountability was serious. We will see what happens. I’ve suggested they are taking legal and reputational risks.

I mean, if it's a microaggression against LGB people, it could also be a microaggression against Orthodox Christians, or Muslims, just as examples.

I don't see how it's differernt than an employer encouraging the staff to all become Baptists or something.

My meaning was, that a complaint based on the fairly stupid premise of 'This is a microaggression towards LGB people' is probably the only thing that a company's HR would even remotely consider as legitimate. I personally think 'microaggressions' are fucking idiotic in an age where fatal aggressions towards women and girls occur every 2 minutes around the world. The very existence of men claiming they are what I am, is more than a 'microaggression' towards ME, but HR don't give a shit about it.
I guess one could try claiming 'this is a microaggression towards my religious beliefs' but I'm not sure how well that'd work either.

MMO · 30/05/2025 06:35

The sooner this shit disappears the better. I don't believe in the "everyone should share their pronouns" bollocks that the NHS seems to be forcing on its staff either! Woke nonsense has no place in the workplace

Probably because people who wear rainbow symbology are often the people who think trans-identifying men have the right to keep sexually assaulting women and girls in female-only spaces. Seen the site 'Terf Is A Slur' yet? If that doesn't enrage you, you might be the one with a problem.
