Does anyone know what's happening at Sisters Salon in Brighton tomorrow? I've heard there's going to be a protest. Can't say much more.

In the video he says 'something went in his head' as he was walking past the library... I think that happened a looooooong time ago, Sarah!

The line in the video that concerned was the one where he said he couldn't help himself.

That's worrying. When else does he struggle to control his impulses. This isn't normal behaviour. Other people who don't like something don't act in such a way.

The statement from the group is brilliant btw. A quote:

We reject the defamatory claim that Sisters Salon is anti-trans. Diversity and inclusion is at the heart of our ethos. We are keenly aware that in national surveys, lesbian and bisexual women self-report significantly higher levels of poor health than heterosexual women. Brighton has a high number of females who identify as transgender as well as de-transitioners who are currently underserved in terms of health provision.

We seek to exist peacefully and harmoniously with Brighton’s transgender community, many of whom support our group and its aims. We are not in opposition to any person with a transgender identity. As Councillor Bella Sankey says, ‘Brighton and Hove is a city of friends in a country of neighbours’.

We believe protests about women holding single-sex events are rooted in misogyny and have no place in our diverse city. The single-sex nature of our meetings is legitimate and in line with equality law. At a meeting on women’s health, a single sex space is especially important as it empowers women to speak freely about our own health issues and focus specifically on our own needs.

Maliciously setting off a fire alarm goes beyond a simple protest – it is unduly provocative, stops women from exercising their Article Eleven right to freedom of assembly. This, together with subsequent inflammatory statements on social media, and misogynistic slurs, has whipped up hostility and misplaced fear about our group. It has resulted in graphic and violent threats towards us.

We refer to the recent Supreme Court ruling clarifying the law upholds single-sex spaces, services and associations, as well as upholding strong protections for trans people.

It is vital for the inclusion of women that we should be able to run vital women-only events without harassment and intimidation. We hope all reasonable people would agree. We will continue to hold space for women, raise awareness about the inequalities we face as women and take action to improve our lives.

Sarah has deleted his Instagram post.

It's fine twitter remembers. It's in the linked post JKR posted complete with subtitles if you can't listen.

“I was fired up..something went in my head
I knew I could not let it go. So I walked into the library and found the room where they were meeting”

Exact quote. It was not a protest. It was an act of malicious intent. This man admits he saw red and acted on it.

AndrogynousElf · 20/05/2025 07:51

It just shows how much he hates women. Or at least enjoys pissing them off.

Juliejubilee · 20/05/2025 08:39

Totally disingenuous. There was a big crowd around the library as there was a gig going on outside as part of another event So you had to navigate your way round to the library entrance. We had signposted the event, were checking whether women had booked. He came to cause trouble.
I do hope the other library users and staff saw what he was doing for what is was - malicious disruption of a community event that was doing something for the potential benefit for women in the city and beyond

Juliejubilee · 20/05/2025 08:46

And various people at the event knew exactly who he was. We all had to troop past him on our way out - he was being stopped by security staff - and then on the way back in as he sat on a chair in the foyer chanting twaw with security next to him waiting for the police to arrive.

AndrogynousElf · 20/05/2025 10:24

He sounds like a right twat.

Hopefully after reading the Sisters Salon statement he feels like a right twat too.

I hope he is prosecuted.

This is a man who is unable to control his anger at women. Who is willing to break the law to stop women from speaking. As noted by others, he may have endangered other people's lives.

It needs to be taken seriously, however ridiculous he appears. It's not on.

Ugh doubt it. Setting off fire alarms is like something that used to happen at the end of term in secondary school. Teenager behaviour. He clearly has no shame or self awareness

Bet it infuriated him when you all went back in and carried on despite his childish and dangerous behaviour. More power to you all for carrying on, I hope no one attending was panicked or intimidated by it all.
