Unions which aren’t captured

I’ve seen a few threads about unions’ generally appalling behaviour and rejection of the SC ruling (ie the law) and thought it might be helpful to have a list of unions (and their sectors) which could actually be relied on to support women’s rights (eg to single-sex spaces)

….the silence is deafening!

This will be a short thread. Last time there was a round up several years ago the journalists’ union (NUJ) was the only hold out.

I am pretty certain Affinity are not captured. They are not affiliated to particular sectors either so are worth a look wherever someone works.

The Free Speech Union is not a trade union, but has helped many with work-related issues, I believe.

The Darlington nurses have set up their own trades union.

Affinity Union is great. Really strong focus on supporting Free Speech. The Free Speech Union (FSU) has recommended them to members. I am with Affinity and recommend them.

I am with FSU too, but they are not really a Union, and you could not rely on them for workplace support as, as far As I understand it, they select which cases to take on.

And yes, Affinity are an independent trade Union.

I think the NEU probably is, but my local union rep is not. I've asked regarding single sex spaces following the SC ruling and had it confirmed they are a definite for staff. Not sure regards students though.

Scottish secondary teachers association (STTA) has been on BBC Reporting Scotland tonight. They’re demanding the Scot Gov update the policy for school toilets immediately. They say the guidance schools are working to from 2021 is the exact opposite of the SC ruling and teachers are putting themselves at risk of litigation by having pupils follow the old policy.
Of course Scot Gov say they won’t act immediately as they are waiting for EHRC updated guidance!
