I haven’t listened yet, and can’t find a thread about it from today 🧐

Anyway, looking forward to hearing Sex Matters later this week.

Man controls what women say

Keeptoiletssafe · 12/05/2025 12:36

This is what I wrote to Women’s Hour:

Re: the Supreme Court Hearing you are discussing today.

It is wonderful this has given clarity for single sex toilets. Single sex toilets are the safest because their design can contains door gaps. Anyone at their most vulnerable (either through a heart attack, seizure, stroke, drug overdose, self harm, being attacked) needs to be seen from outside the cubicle in order to be helped. The Supreme Court ruling that women’s toilets are for women only and men’s toilets are for men only will help anyone who is at their most vulnerable.

Mixed sex toilet designs don’t have door gaps.

When people can’t rely on single sex meaning single sex, they value privacy more in design and the gaps go.

This Supreme Court clarity has the ability to save lives and prevent assaults because of toilet design.

Edit: that was on the deleted thread

Presumably Robin is watching this one too so perhaps come on and debate?

Yes, sound idea. Come on, Robin, give it a go!

murasaki · 12/05/2025 12:38

If the book review, which is fantastic, is out in the public domain, the thread can't have been deleted for that, surely.

ParmaVioletTea · 12/05/2025 12:39

RMW has both the male voice and the entitled attitude to match.

That's because he realised that a man's voice was a professional advantage. Coward - wants to appropriate womanhood, but not prepared to take the tough bits. What a demonstration of male privilege.

WarriorN · 12/05/2025 12:40

I started one this morning.

deleted - probably all the ‘misgenderings.’

there’s nothing in the EA that demands pronouns

Keeptoiletssafe · 12/05/2025 12:40

I mentioned a link from translucent on Robin’s thoughts in Feb 25. Maybe that was it?

murasaki · 12/05/2025 12:41

Maybe having very thin skin is perceived as a feminine trait.

WarriorN · 12/05/2025 12:42

RMW said something like if little boys can go in with their mums, why can’t I?

  1. RMW is admitting they’re male here.
  2. RMW is an adult male, not a boy.
Keeptoiletssafe · 12/05/2025 12:42

I keep a file because I am genuinely interested in design solutions. I would like to know what design solutions Robin can come up with.

JeannieDark · 12/05/2025 12:44

Toseland · 12/05/2025 12:22

A woman would know at up to which age it is acceptable to have boys in women's toilets. Woman's Hour both guest and presenter didn't seem to know!

I don’t know if it’s a hard and fast rule or not but I’ve seen 8 as a rule in some places and I’ve used that. But if I’m expected to send my tiny 9yo son into men’s toilets and assume he will be safe then trans women should be able to put their big girl pants on and deal with the same toilets as actual adults.

Keeptoiletssafe · 12/05/2025 12:46

I have also seen 8 as a rule and that’s what we used with our own children.

WarriorN · 12/05/2025 12:53

It’s certainly 8 in schools

SabrinaThwaite · 12/05/2025 12:56

The two ‘solutions’ I spotted over the weekend were:

  1. Labelling the separate disabled toilet / baby change room within the ladies toilets ‘gender inclusive’ (motorway services)
  2. Labelling the disabled toilet as ‘men, women and disabled’ (National Trust)
HandsomeCleverandRich · 12/05/2025 12:58

I thought Operation Let Them Speak was doing great things this morning. Anyone know if this was one of the discussions they also videoed? That might be extremely helpful too, especially during the parts when our bundling visitor was claiming the only reason for a cafe assistant to refer to them as ‘that man’ would be to deliberately cause offence, as they are a high profile and ‘out’ trans person, rather than just ordinary speech from a person not versed in policed language around gender, relying on their own judgement (and eyes).

Keeptoiletssafe · 12/05/2025 12:59

I think it is safer for small children to go into single sex toilets with adult because single sex toilets have a door gap. That means they are not acoustically sound and private.

An adult might not be their parent.

Why should a adult of a different sex to the child be given more privacy than an adult of a child of the same sex?

niblast · 12/05/2025 12:59

At first I was annoyed that Woman's Hour were interviewing this man, but having listened to it I changed my mind.

With that deep, booming voice that is so obviously male, and his dismissive and condescending attitude towards women's needs, he's the perfect spokesman for these men who say they're women.

I've no doubt he's changed a few minds today, and not in the way he hoped. Thanks Robin!

HandsomeCleverandRich · 12/05/2025 13:01

And the mentioning of women bringing children into toilets may well not have been the ‘gotcha’ the Bundler in Chief thinks either, given that it even seemed to jolt the presenter into a shocked reminder that children use the Women’s Loos too.

Keeptoiletssafe · 12/05/2025 13:02

Have to go into a meeting now but will be interested in how this thread goes….

Yes it was deleted. Do we know who of Sex Matters will be on the programme? I feel I need to prepare myself if the BBC will actually be letting Helen Joyce on the airwaves.

I don't know about that, but they appear not to have approached LGB Alliance yet.

Bev Jackson has just said:

The radio programme @ BBCWomansHour has announced: “This week we'll be hearing different perspectives on the recent Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman under the Equality Act, and how it could and should be interpreted on the ground.”

Given the crucial role played in this case by the “Lesbian Interveners” - our arguments featured prominently and the word “lesbian” appears 25 times in the ruling - I would assume the producers are planning to include our perspective in this series.

For every word he speaks, another TERF is born. Thank you sir for your service.

ParmaVioletTea · 12/05/2025 15:37

Do we infer from Ms Jackson Tweet, that the LGB Alliance have NOT been asked @Another2Cats ? That is appalling - and just rude.

The other interveners were Sex Matters and the Lesbian Project. Do you think they might ask Julie Bindel or Kath Stock? Who are great speakers.

Ahem. You're forgetting this is the BBC - there are a lot of drag queens that need to have their voices amplified first .🙄

Edited

Quite, the order is probably

Transwomen
More transwomen
Drag Queens
More drag queens
Men
Women and transmen

Harassedevictee · 12/05/2025 15:50

I thought the interviewer did quite well continually being it back to the judgement.
