Transgender women or transwomen?

Am I alone in finding this confusing?
The BBC just used the term interchangeably.
In my mind, transgender women are transgender.

I've been using "men with the PC/protected characteristic of GR/gender reassignment" since the judgement...

How about "men claiming the PC of GR"

bubblerabbit · 01/05/2025 18:41

I just say men who are pretending to be women.

It is what it is.

Oh, yes, that's even better!

SwordOfOmens · 01/05/2025 19:24

Trans identified male.

Sausagenbacon · 01/05/2025 19:36

Tbf, I think transwoman is fine.
But transgender women is deliberately opaque

Without wanting to curse it have any other FWR regulars noticed there seems to have been some relaxation of what terms we’re permitted to use?

Previously we weren’t allowed to say “men who identify as women” or “trans identifying men/males” without a deletion or ban hammer strike.

TheCatsTongue · 01/05/2025 19:41

The terms used deliberately avoid any terms such as "male" or "man".

Transwomen banned from women's football.
Biological men banned from women's football.

Of course transgender is used because it is so generic and can mean "man wearing women's clothing".

A headline of "Men wearing women's clothing are banned from women's football", well...

FizzingAda · 01/05/2025 20:02

It's telling that this is all about 'what is a woman'?, but nobody ever asks 'what is a transwoman?'

The most bizarre I’ve heard was Jazz Jennings being described as “A woman of transgender experience.”

aka a male whose experience is of stunted development, castration, and numerous savage cosmetic operations.

Didn't Dr Upton describe himself as "a woman with a transgender history"?

Ilovecleaning · 01/05/2025 20:36

I’m hardly being original but trans -women are trans-women; they are not women.

Men shouldn't be describing themselves as any sort of woman, though.

buriedminion · 01/05/2025 20:46

Whatever happened to the word transvestite? Man dressing as a woman?

I know. I agree. It’s bollocks.

Or maybe they should describe themselves as “pretend-women”

Gettingbysomehow · 01/05/2025 20:55

They aren't women.

Deliberately consumed by transgender because of the negativity around it.

It is an important word because it separates out the men who are purely cross-dressing (for sexual arousal) from those who have had some sort of medical intervention.

Importantly whilst AGP is more concerned with the female body, transvestism is more concerned around what goes on top of the female body (the clothing).

Eradicating the term "transvestite" is actually putting more men down a medicalised route.

Lovelyview · 01/05/2025 21:03

I'm currently going with trans identified man (TIM) unless someone has previously said 'trans woman' in which case I use it but put it in quotation marks. Unless I'm talking about Eddie Izzard in which case I use the word transvestite because he bloody well is one.

Everyone should return to calling them what they are - transsexuals

TeiTetua · 01/05/2025 23:34

I would say "transgender individuals", and if the situation wasn't clear, I'd add "who want to play women's sports" or "who want to use women's toilets". I wouldn't initially say anything with "women" in it, because that seems to accept that these people are women in some form.

Same applies to the kids with gender delusions, of both sexes.

’transgender’ is more accurate - they cant change sex, whereas ‘gender’ can be altered (frequently, in the case of ‘gender fluid’ individuals).

Cleanbed · 02/05/2025 01:50

Men who wear dresses.

OldSkuul · 02/05/2025 02:59

Technical term is man.
