BBC bias

Worth collating?

Radio 4 World at One just now (not verbatim but on iPlayer):

’Transwomen to be excluded from football. We speak to those affected’ - they mean TIMs, not the women affected.

Speaking to the TIM:

’So you’ve been playing for x amount of years, and have encountered no problems in that time?’

’Yes, I’ve only experienced a welcome and kindness. There’s been no problems for anyone.’

Every day is the same on the BBC since the ruling. It’s ridiculously biased.

I think if they ever made the effort to speak to actual women and girls, who have been made to feel like bigots for even thinking out loud, or the young girl that received a ban for daring to correctly sex a bearded man on the female team, or the abuse women get for having an opinion on the matter…..they might find answers which don’t meet their rhetoric!!!

Reporting that "Biological males" are banned from women's sports would be more honest. The BBC is not interested in truthful reporting yet.

Like toddlers, the Trans "sportswomen" scream and bawl about not being able to play any more but they were unable to empathise with women who complained that males in their sports were putting women at risk of harm.

cariadlet · 01/05/2025 19:13

It is getting better though.

Sharron Davies was on R4 PM and was brilliant. The bbc website report about the FA ban on men in women's football had reactions from Sex Matters (described as a human rights charity), WRN and Sharron Davies.

Still putting the poor men at the centre of the story. 🙄 But much better than it was.

PriOn1 · 01/05/2025 19:14

The reporting is indeed pathetic, but what a wonderful day it’s been for women’s sports.

TheOtherRaven · 01/05/2025 19:17

I agree its worth collating. I tried a thread a few weeks back where a few articles were linked, but it would be very helpful to have one running one with links and records. It is blatant.

EasternStandard · 01/05/2025 19:26

Sharron Davies is brilliant. Tg for her and women like her. Otherwise it was just be male voices.

Sausagenbacon · 01/05/2025 19:34

I am SO tired of gc women being asked if they feel responsible for the disappointment of tw.
They never ask tw if they think this is a victory for women's rights.
Funny, that

Listen to Sharon Davies on PM at 5.35 Radio4 tonight - she puts the women’s case over well.

hholiday · 01/05/2025 19:41

I used to be a journalist and the judgement and its repercussions have been very poorly reported - and markedly unlike any other news story. The case itself - you had a small group of crowdfunded women who challenged a government - and won. That’s the stuff of films… the classic ‘against all odds’ plot line. And yet, not a hint of that line in the main news stories. Now this… journalistic curiosity should propel you to the root of why these changes are being made. And the case of that teenage girl and many others were widely reported- and yet, on the BBC, nothing. In addition, the bbc has an obligation to be impartial in its reporting. It’s amazing that Sharron does so many interviews on this subject but it smacks of ‘throwing well-known gc woman to the wolves’ again and makes it appear that the problems are simply her point of view, rather than using your own journalism to explain the context and facts behind what she is saying.

TheCatsTongue · 01/05/2025 19:46

ITV is much worse, and I believe it is because Paul Brand is a patron of Just Like Us an LGBT+ charity that is very heavy on campaigning.

ScrollingLeaves · 01/05/2025 20:09

I heard that, thought as you did, and agree with you. Luckily though at the end a woman they got on in place of Sharon Davies, who could not come, to explain the reasons for not including men in all women’s sports, did so lucidly and calmly I thought, and made more sense than the transwoman (male) footballer.

I think it was PM today where the speaker inappropriately referred to ‘gender’ instead of sex, if I have remembered correctly. The BBC of all people surely needs to use language better. The court ruling was about Sex in the Equality Act. Sex is the word to use.

I was also annoyed by The Times using sloppy language in this:
Potter stars turn against Rowling
“Leading actors have signed an open letter against the trans ruling by the Supreme Court.”

Am I not right in thinking it was a ruling about the meaning of Sex in the Equality Act?

The ruling may have repercussions for transpeople but that is something that may follow from the ruling not what the ruling was.

The BBC currently has a questionnaire to find out what people want from them in the future. The final question is a space to say how you think the BBC could improve.
I'm sorry I can't post a link but it's on their news main page if anyone's interested.
