Sorry for starting another new thread, I couldn't see an existing thread where this would really fit.
I'm on the Sex Matters mailing list and just read their roundup of the week's events.
Thought some of you might like to read Maya Forstater's contribution.
On Thursday, together with leaders from LGB Alliance, I was honoured to attend a reception at the House of Lords to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Equality Act. We were invited alongside the CEOs of other organisations – including Simon Blake of Stonewall, who didn’t look happy to see us and left before I got a chance to talk to him. But I did have the opportunity to thank Baroness Falkner for her bravery and leadership.
We have had so many kind messages in our inbox and on the street from women and men who are, like us, delighted that a law designed to protect women can no longer be used to harm them.
But as the women of Mumsnet have taught me, the most dangerous period in domestic abuse is the moment the abused partner leaves and for 18 months afterwards: the abuser’s behaviour often escalates. We should have expected the rage-fuelled reaction of the thwarted men and their enablers – and the ability of cowards to look away. But we have got this far, and we won’t give up.
Thanks for the shout out, Maya, if you see this!
