PCS - the Public and Commercial Services Union have sent an email to members today stating the decision by the Supreme Court is ‘appalling and devastating’.

Are there any members of FDA or Prospect that has insight to their position and reaction?

I am in PCS and have had nothing from our branch or Group Executive Committee. I absolutely agree with what has been said above- I'm a rep, I've been to conference, I attend branch meetings and argue my case- if people won't do that, then someone else will step up and they may not share your opinions.

The FDA went out to members yesterday. They noted some members have been asking them to take a position (mm I bet they have!). But the statement boiled down to "we've taken external legal advice and are saying nothing ahead of final EHRC position".

I'm quite wary of where they may ultimately land, but at least this kicks it into the long grass for now

I don't know whether it was just from the Local Branch of Prospect - it might have been.

I assume so, as I've not had a peep which I find v interesting - although I haven't had the impression that Prospect are captured in this area.

Nothing from them in the latest update, or mentions in our last meeting.

PCS have a conference next week and there's already been a range of motions approved on trans rights. One thing is the votes on these at branch level nowadays are a show of hands on a remote call. So . Well it's not an anonymous ballot.

Didn't ex PCS head Mark Serwotka's wife used to be a big wig in GC women's advocacy?

There's one motion in there that castigates the (stand up to racism/ SWP ish left coalition) for not implementing earlier rulings and it groups together Trans and Non Binary

I wonder how many women have left because of this absolute waste of time.

On a side note: since Keir has now realised women don’t have penises, are the Unions still prepared to fund Labour? Especially as he’s now, hilariously, a newly reborn Enoch Powell.

Glad that Nitter is back so you don't have to have a twitter account to read it.

This was a tweet from the Fire Brigades Union

https://nitter.net/fbunational/status/1922595681010585654#m

For ref:

"We know that the law is not always on the right side of history. The Supreme Court ruling last month does not make public spaces safer for anyone. The interim guidance is unworkable, unhelpful and will only lead to an increase in discrimination for workers, including in fire stations and in control rooms. Trans people are not a threat. Gender-based violence and misogyny are."
