There has been much discussion of the threat placards and statue vandalism on the weekend.

Worse happened though. Brave women were attacked by TAs on Saturday

Jean Hatchet was there and has been interviewed about it on GB news.

Woman 'covered in BRUISES' after 'TERRIFYING assault' at transgender march: 'They're VIOLENT men!'

It has two theatres known for putting on opera, ballet, William Shakespeare (RSC productions come), as well as modern drama/controversial and off-beat drama, musicals and music festivals, a famous international dance competition, an international firework competition that draws people from the whole of Lancashire over a month, a punk festival (very friendly and it was the punk visitors who protected the promenade from rioters last summer), some very expensive property and also some moderately expensive property. It has a new cinema - the old one used to stream plays from The Globe but not sure if the new one does, but definitely avante garde programme included. There are a fair number of local artists and musicians (enough to make a good open art exhibition - one of my friends exhibited and he's very good, also he is gay) as well as writers (poets, novellists, maybe not famous people but creative nonetheless, and locally known). The city is extremely welcoming to gay people with a gay cultural quarter, a big Pride event and a large gay population - many B&B owners and hotel owners are gay couples. It has one university, being an outstation of Lancaster.
Doesn't have a Pavillion but the Winter Gardens is definitely architectural kitsch.
Quite left wing - Labour MPs, and Labour controlled council - voted for Brexit, so sees the EU as a capitalist cartel and invidious to working class people.

The Brighton of the north. Or one could say that Brighton is the Blackpool of the south.

I got two hearts for my comments on Blackpool. I'm never sure what a heart means. Is it sympathy because someone thinks your a bit needy/misled/in need of sustaining? Or is it some form of agreement. As to Blackpool, I would rather be there, where people know women are adult human females than in Brighton where a LWS rally was treated abominably, the refuge for rape victims is not sex-segregated but allows TiMs in, and is the origin of the Brighton Trans toolkit, which advises schools to carry out illegal acts and to breach safeguarding of students (esp girls) by allowing boys who ID as girls into the girls' changing rooms (though presumably this will now change).
Blackpool has its problems. But Brighton has worse ones.
NB You can see West Ends shows in Blackpool for a tithe of London prices - friends come up from London to stay and do just that.

This is not a good look for the police. After the joke of arresting Quakers and parents complaining to a school yet this happens in their faces...?!
This government have to speak out about this - just a week after they wanged on about tackling Misogyny!

You've got three now - I used it because your post was very informative, and also heartfelt. For me a heart is a positive reaction.

Didn’t Eddie Izard try to get voted in as mp for Sheffield and lose?

That’s right, one minute he goes by his male name then the next his female persona, confusing.

It’s shocking, they are men playing dress up and as usual telling females what to do. I agree with the court’s decision, a woman is a biological female at birth. I wish they’d sod off and keep out of our toilets, changing areas, sports etc. It’s hard enough being a woman in society, they can’t have it all, we’ve had to fight for so much.

To be a woman is to experience a period every month for approximately 35 years, then menopause, and if possible you’ve had children. They won’t battle with endometriosis, ovarian, cervical, womb cancer or an ectopic pregnancy.

My poor daughter had a Hysterectomy at 27 due to horrendous endometriosis, she has no children. I watched her go through hell and is now having psychotherapy due to how she was treated by the gynaecologist, a man. After one of her laparoscopies she developed a post operation infection, it happens, we were given a leaflet upon discharge informing us of such a possibility. Her gynaecologist had a hissy fit and said she couldn’t possibly have caught it on his operating table!!! He then put in her notes that she must have caught an STD!!! Really, 2 days after the operation, she’s been with her partner for 7 years, what an arrogant prick. They haven’t got a FUCKING clue what a woman has to cope with, it makes me so chuffing angry!!!

peanutbuttertoasty · 23/04/2025 01:39

The most dangerous time for a woman in an abusive relationship is when she tries to leave.

That’s where we are right now. We’ve just told these men to get out.

Really perceptive comment 👍

Celebrating dysphoria is like throwing a part for depression and anxiety.

Sheffield is in the Midlands? I thought it was Yorkshire. I would have declared Leeds to be the Brighton of Yorkshire.

Sheffield is in South Yorkshire
