Employer (NHS) response to Supreme Court Judgement

BeaTwix · 19/04/2025 19:46

My employer has been operating a policy for many years of self ID into staff changing rooms, toilets, ward beds (for patients) and the public toilets throughout the trust.

Their response to the SC judgement was a whole staff email highlighting their "unwavering commitment to supporting people of all gender identities and gender expression".

They expressed sympathy for any anxiety caused.

There was no expression of concern for the thousands of staff, patients or visitors who have been forced to share facilities that should have been single sex due to an erroneous interpretation of the Equalities Act 2010.

I am FUCKING FUMING. But undecided about whether to stick my head above the parapet and tell them so.

If this sounds familiar please DM me.

If it were me, I'd be tempted to go public with the NHS trust, for the good of the public.

Please send the email to Sex Matters.

Also, there is another thread on this I think. Will find it if I can.

There’s a thread collecting NHS responses.

WarriorN · 19/04/2025 19:50

I’d be naming and shaming. Possibly via the papers.

WarriorN · 19/04/2025 19:51

Though I’m sure sex matters will
be collating examples - definitely send to them as per PP

That’s the one, thanks @ItisntOver !

Notaflippinclue · 19/04/2025 19:55

Name and shame him - it’s obviously a man!

Also, some of us have been auditing NHD Trust single sex policies here:

I should have added - we’d be interested in your trust’s letter. I think KnottyAuty put a link to an anonymous form for you to upload letters in the thread on NHS responses to the SC judgement.

It sounds like they are saying they will blatantly flout the laws. I would contact the press - I’m sure journalists will be expecting this and waiting to print names of specific orgs

BeaTwix · 19/04/2025 20:16

Thanks all. I missed the other thread.
I'll send it over to sex matters.

I'm just so cross. Way to go to make you feel valued on call on Easter bank holiday weekend.

(And it was sent by a bloke and a woman. The most senior of senior leaders).

Definitely send a copy to Sex Matters, they are in a position to collect the information; and bring it to the attention of the Secretary for Health if they express anything that is contrary to the law, which has now been clarified for them.

Sorry I was typing mine when the one above got posted.

My trust sent out what sounds like the same email . I deleted it in disgust.
Are you in the south?

NextRinny · 19/04/2025 20:27

Women have never complained yada yada. Oh they complained, very publicly as well, yeah... we are just going to carry on as before. 🙄

Can you undelete it and send it to Sex Matters as well?

Please send the email to Sex Matters.

A few thoughts:

  1. Do they have a whistle blowing policy? Afterall ir looks as though they're breaking the law. So you could raise it in all innocence under the policy.
  1. You can also raise with the Department of Health and the EHRC. Both are responsible for operation of the law.
  1. I'd def tell Sex Matters. They're v good.
Nevertrustacop · 19/04/2025 22:33

Yup, zap it over to sex matters and tell the senders you have done so because you believe the current policies to be illegal. If you don't have the courage to send it from your NHS email address send it from a burner address, with the senders copied in. You are doing them a favour really. The litigation will soon be flying.
