We cannot let our guard down. What next to protect women's rights?

The reaction in some quarters to the Supreme Court ruling has made it clear we still have a long way to go.

They will be planning their next attack on female rights so we need to be prepared.

I urge you all to fire off as many emails as you can. To MP/MSPs, charities, service providers, NHS etc etc.

We need to urge them to take proper legal advice from non activist neutral lawyers on the meaning of the Supreme Court ruling.

We cannot allow the TRA "experts" to muscle in and gaslight and misrepresent the law again.

I think we are going to have to go through a phase of holding organisations to the fire.
Public sector organisations, naturally, and also retailers and employers who have ignored female dignity and women’s biological rights and requirements.

I also want to challenge each and every time incorrect pronouns are used.

I feel a letter writing campaign coming on, but wonder if organisations like sex matters and the women’s rights network have a coordinated plan?

RethinkingLife · 18/04/2025 08:52

I would like to participate in well targeted organised letter writing.

And there are probably consultations that need appropriate input.

Undoing this degree of political capture will be difficult, to step away from the bias or to give equal consideration to women is a sin. Literally. Those writing and leading these organisations were all trained by highly biased agencies and given wrong interpretations of the law while being told they were 'ahead' of the law- ie the law would be changed to match the practice. That fantasy has now been blown apart. Unfortunately it turns out that other people have rights too.

It will be about legal compulsion, although I do wonder once this starts if we will see a lot of equality lead personel jump ship. Hopefully to be replaced with more neutral employees. The first step really will be the guidance issued, and then yes, to be prepared to keep repeating that this is not the law, will not stand up in court, and be prepared to take it that far.

Agreed, we have local elections here soon and I would love to raise this issue with canvassers. I feel it's lazy of me to hope WRN or Sex Matters provide guidance, but frankly I'm up to my eyeballs in an elderly parents crisis situation and work so just don't have much time at present.

I raised this issue during the GE campaign with two local Lib Dem councillors who were out canvassing for the LD candidate. The male councillor shut me down immediately, wouldn't engage at all. The female councillor was silent - I have spoken to her before on the doorstep and got a muted but generally sympathetic response. I would love to raise the issue again with the male councillor now.

IMHO digital ID will be a big fight. Passports and driving licences have already been corrupted so they must not be allowed to be used as proof of sex and co-opted into digital ID.

Fortunately Sex Matters are all over this:

The rape laws need redoing. Still.

FirstSheIsWise · 18/04/2025 11:52

The recording of crimes continues to need scrutiny too

Sex Matters are on it:

What does the For Women Scotland judgment mean in practice?

Ten places for urgent action
In the coming weeks Sex Matters will be writing to institutions, and providing templates that people can use to write to their own institutions...

In particular area I think letters can hit very hard in RETAIL.

Lets get changing rooms back.

Start writing it M & S etc demanding they adjust their policy. Saying there will be law suits if ANY women has pervs after her in Changing rooms after the judgements.

I don’t know how digital identity can be accurately recorded without sorting out the inaccuracies in passports and driving licences. Without changes in the policies of sex recording in passports and driving licences, the effect of the Supreme Court judgement is significantly blunted.

Jenni
Harvey posted this on Twitter and I agree.

there have long been analogous comparisons with how abusers operate; gaslighting and DARVO tactics.

women proclaiming horror at the ruling will be encouraged —further groomed— to join the backlash - it’s already happening. The hyperbole will intensify x10 fold.

Labour have a massive fucking job on their hands to sort out their own MPs and civil servants here. The EHRC is going to have to be very firm.

Important thread - 100% agree - so so important

JellySaurus · 18/04/2025 13:11

Captured shops will just make all their changing rooms mixed-sex. Including Lingerie changing rooms. But won't bother with any signage to indicate this.

And it will be perfectly legal, because separating changing rooms by sex is legally permitted, rather than legally required.

Legal, but not logical.

JellySaurus · 18/04/2025 13:15

Something that I have found very difficult in discussing women's rights with people who aren't particularly aware of the situation, is that men do not recognise women's fear (or the justification for their fear) and that women refuse to acknowledge that they could feel fear.

They will need to be honest that they are mixed sex now though. No more women’s changing rooms that allow men in. And that will be harder to get past their customers.
