Thanks Justin.

Oh what did he say?

peakadulting · 18/04/2025 07:39

Looking at the practical implications of the SC judgment.

He described the recent British transport police change as people being searched by someone whose biological sex matches theirs. None of the "transwomen to be searched by men" stuff from the TRS newspapers. Also none of the woman-focused stuff from the papers that take out side!

Is it neutral? A lot of focus on transwomen not being able to use the ladies toilet but no mention of why women may need them single sex

peakadulting · 18/04/2025 07:41

Really worth a listen. Interviewing a lawyer who says that the Judgment clear that TWANW for the purposes of the EA2010, but did not say that more generally.
Lots of practical issues to consider - training etc. Think she said stonewall training materials may still be ok? Will relisten.

Thank you, listening now.

peakadulting · 18/04/2025 07:43

Interviewing a education union person - they would like more guidance. Implies trans student would likely be in a single room on a school trip but not clear.

They got someone from Dentons explaining the legal aspects. Is that the same Dentons who wrote a handbook on Trans lobbying?

Bruisername · 18/04/2025 07:44

In this school point - dd is at a single sex school and there are a lot of non binary kids and a few trans kids - all biologically female. Never been an issue.

glad Justin brought up the cultural point and that biology is true!

not sure what further clarity they need🙄

i’m glad they got Justin to do this piece

Huh, well more neutral than anything else I've heard on the BBC. But you're quite right - the focus is still on implications for trans people. But then I suppose their side lost the case.

Omg I knew Dentons was a familiar name! Surely can't be?! Off to Google...

How can TWAW survive in any situation now?! It's not biologically true,it's nit true under equality act. It's up there with Santa is Santa

That was Pepe Di'Iasio (General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL)). He said that current best practice on school trips is to have just one room for all students.

However, thinking back now perhaps he said that in the context of single-sex schools.

Edited

Did he? I thought he fudged and was really saying normally you share to save costs but single rooms for students with gender issues. That was my impression.

nauticant · 18/04/2025 07:58

I had a re-listen and now realise he was ambiguous. He talked about having a single room to solve potential problems when there's a trans student and thinking about it your interpretation makes more sense.

Bruisername · 18/04/2025 07:58

They had a teacher on last night talking about how most of the kids I her feminist society are trans or non binary - did not seem to strike her as at all odd

unfortunately the education system is letting all our kids down on this issue and I really hope there is some strong guidance

It survives under the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

"Where a full gender recognition certificate is issued to a person, the person’s gender becomes for all purposes the acquired gender (so that, if the acquired gender is the male gender, the person’s sex becomes that of a man and, if it is the female gender, the person’s sex becomes that of a woman)."

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2004/7/section/9

It is only for purposes of the Equality Act 2010 that TWANW, because the word "woman" in the EA means "biological woman". So TWAW except when it comes to single sex spaces or sex discrimination. I think.

Gender Recognition Act 2004

An Act to make provision for and in connection with change of gender.

The reporting has been appalling. The BBC only seems interested in the effects on trans people. No reports about why women took the case or why it will benefit them that the (pretty damn clear) Equality Act has been clarified.

Yes the same Dentons
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-document-that-reveals-the-remarkable-tactics-of-trans-lobbyists/😮

Seems like they drafted the doc at the behest of TRA groups and say they may not agree with the views 😮

I love it! “It wasn’t me, it was their fault, they made me do it!”

The reverse-ferreting we’ve seen in the past couple of days is spectacular.
