...getting to the end of my to be read shelf and looking at restocking: I hear that chap Galbraith is quite a good writer, and has had some expenses recently. So my question is,do I read them in publication order,or is there a better order to read them in? 😁👍 (anyone else still feeling ridiculously happy we can say 2+2=4 again and not be called a bigot? Feel giddy!!)

Yes. Read the first one first and the second one second and so on. They are very good. Oh, and I notice the new one is available for pre-order.....

Thank you. I know it sounds silly, but when a series gets going, sometimes there are odd orders

I really wouldn't worry about Robert Galbraith's bank balance, which I understand to be very healthy regardless of how much of it has been poured into various worthy causes.

Buy the books because they're bloody brilliant.

And yes, read them in order.

I know what you mean. You get odd prequels and alternative universes and so on which messes it all up. Galbraith (whoever he is) doesn't do that.

SloppyThePoodle · 17/04/2025 14:46

Yes read them in order! Can't wait until the next book is out this September! They're fantastic.

Rightsraptor · 17/04/2025 14:47

You could read them out of order but best no to, I think. There's a lot of development in the relationship between Strike & Robin that you'd miss if you tackle them out of their order.

The TV adaptations are very good too.

Ooh, a new one? I must get that.

I've got to the point where I'm not afraid to give up on books if I don't like them, but heard they were good so would try them anyway. It's just this week, I feel like I want to do a small thing: so often we see people with Fuck Off money give in to ego,or go to space for 10 minutes: JK used her to help keep my daughters safer than they were a few days ago,and after the last few years,I'm surprised hiw emotional that has made me feel. 👍

Oh no, not until September 😭

I suppose that gives me a chance to re-read them from the beginning, so I hit the road running when it arrives.

I have read them all (except for the one that’s not out, though I’m an awfully good proofreader if you wanted to send a pre-release copy my way, Jo?), and the fact that you have the joy of reading them all for the first time makes me a tiny bit jealous 😜

Word to the wise - if you read on kindle or other e-reader, The Ink Black Heart is hard going (it has font and formatting issues due to the way some of the text is presented). I’d spend a bit more and get that one in paper format.

NumberTheory · 17/04/2025 15:10

They’re written in chronological order with some minor references to previous books (none that would make the current story difficult to understand) and slow arcs on the main characters’ long running relationships (friends, family, partners). So reading in order is recommended, but you’ll enjoy them in any order if it’s hard to get your hands on one for a while.

DeanElderberry · 17/04/2025 18:46

I'm sure the author, who I revere, would be outraged at my saying this, but rest assured that when you are reading the book with a lot of transcripts of online communications, you can skip them and still enjoy the book.

misscockerspaniel · 17/04/2025 19:07

I envy you. They are brilliant, and you must read them in order.
