Labour MP Kate Osbourne fights back in Labour List

Kate Osbourne is a lesbian and a TRA. Yesterday, following the Supreme Court ruling, she published this article in LabourList, a Labour newsletter.

https://labourlist.org/2025/04/supreme-court-trans-rights-labour/

In it she says 'In this regard the court has said in almost all instances sex in the law refers to biological sex. This ignores the fact that biological sex as we see it is not just one biological thing,' a statement she fails to clarify.

This has been pounced on by people anxious to deny biology, who are talking about sex at a molecular and hormonal level, arguing that some women have higher testosterone levels than some men etc. And bringing the DSD card back into play.

Just flagging this up. Osbourne is likely to have been briefed by Stonewall or other interested players. I'm guessing it's one front that the TRAs will try to fight back on.

If anyone's in Kate Osbourne's constituency it would be really helpful if you could go along to a surgery and ask her to clarify what she means when she said 'biological sex as we see it is not just one biological thing.'

It is very welcome that the Supreme Court has reconfirmed that both direct and indirect discrimination, as well as harassment against trans people — whether…

I don't understand why a women would support this ideology but I'm double flummoxed by lesbians buying into it. 🤯

It would be nice if someone could pin her down on just how many biology's the Homo Sapiens need considering every other life form on the planet only needs one.

The odd thing about this line of argument is that even if it was true that DSD conditions constituted a third sex, so what?

The vast majority of trans people don't have these conditions so it's of no relevance.

"A male person can be termed female because a few people are nether male nor female" makes no sense even if it were true.

"No one disputes the need for same-sex spaces"

I have heard plenty of people dispute it.

The Labour Party also has a lot of people pledging to purge anyone who argued for them

zanahoria · 17/04/2025 16:01

"Similarly, how do you prevent harassment of a trans man in female spaces, if he is perceived as male but required to use female spaces?"

How often has this happened?

Frankly, very few Transmen are perceived as male.

There have been three other important Labour List articles highlighting the reaction inside Labour. Need to be looked at alongside Osbourne's,

First
Supreme Court verdict on women and Equality Act: Government welcomes ‘clarity’ but Labour tensions flare

A storming endorsement of the victory from Joani Reid MP

Supreme Court: ‘Labour women were shut down. But we won’t concede rights won in a century of feminist struggle’
Joani Reid, the Labour MP for East Kilbride and Strathaven supporter of Labour Women's Declaration

Latest is LGBT Labour defy the official line

Supreme Court: LGBT+ Labour, Young Labour and Labour Students reps slam ruling but Duffield tells PM to apologise
https://labourlist.org/2025/04/supreme-court-ruling-trans-rights-women-young-students-labour/

Looks like the fight inside Labour is far from over, but the clarity of the victory and the reaction from the Starmer camp indicates that the TA cause is in serious trouble. Sarwar in particular wants to use the gender disaster to attack the SNP next year.

I think some trans men do pass quite well but many are clearly young women but I think if men do not want trans men in their spaces that is their fight not women’s!
if I was a passing trans man I would continue to use men’s spaces and if I was clearly still looking like a young woman I wouldn’t be in the men’s anyway ( and I suspect many do still use the ladies)

Needspaceforlego · 20/04/2025 05:56

The transman argument is mental, if the men's is a hostile place for transwomen, how can it possibly be a safe place for transmen.
I'm curious to what experiences transmen have actually had in the men's?

slimeandfearmetro · 20/04/2025 09:48

I'm in that constituency and have written to her because I oppose assisted dying. She sends out canned responses to anyone who disagrees with her that can be translated as "la la la I'm not listening".

I think the Westminster police should bring the police stiffer dogs into Portcullis house.
what are some politicians on?

It's hostile for trans women because they are women, but fine for trans men because they are men.

All trans activist arguments make sense if you think that trans women are a subset of women rather than a subset of men, and trans men are a subset of men rather than a subset of women.
