I know this was pre-the decision, but I loved it so much, I just had to post. From Nick Wallis, of the BBC
I feel awkward to be picking a side. It goes against my BBC training which has given me so much. But this is a matter of conscience. Trans women are not women. Men with GRCs are not women. They are men with certificates. Observable facts tend to destroy wishful thinking. My wish is to be at the Supreme Court tomorrow to hear the laughter if the women lose or the cheers if they win, but I can’t make it. Either way, I’m proud to know them. Their Lord and Lady justices will make the pronouncement at 9.45am. If they choose Alice in Wonderland’s strange concepts, society and the ability of broadcast journalism to function as a trusted source of news is utterly fucked. It will lead to a breakdown of trust between the media and the general public, who know exactly what a woman is. Good luck FWS.

Nick Wallis was the main force behind exposing the Post Office scandal with investigative programmes on Radio 4 for years. For exposing that scandal alone he should be admired. He obviously has his head screwed on correctly about biological facts too.

Beowulfa · 16/04/2025 14:23

Surely Private Eye will have to tackle this more seriously now? There have just been a few clever cartoons (Grizelda).

From his mouth to the BBC's ears. 🙏

Fantastic. Eloquently put. Nice to know there's some sanity at the BBC! I'm sure there are going to be some very different responses today...

" observable facts tend to destroy wishful thinking" - my favourite part of an excellent speech. Thank you for sharing.

I'm with Nick. I'm an employment lawyer by training who has worked with unions. I'm so effing fed up of the nonsense made of equalities and maternity protections.

All hail the return of sanity!

Scottish posters on FWR introduced me to Robert Burns' aphorism "Facts are chiels that winna ding”.
