Shelagh Fogarty discussing today's ruling on LBC

Shelagh just starting a 2 hour discussion about this ruling. She has already said that she is pleased about the ruling, and that trans people are not losing any rights at all. She has been consistently clear and sane on this issue in the past couple of years so it should be an excellent listen, and a palate cleanser after James O' Brien this morning

I literally can not listen the James O'Brien - me makes me literally seethe. Sheila - always the voice of reason and sensibility!

Me too. He is wilfully ignorant and proud to be so. He went along with a caller who peddled all kinds of nonsense and made up/incorrect statistics and didn't challenge any of it. He could easily have done a little bit of reading, given his very expensive private education.

She is leading a very good and balanced discussion on the implications.

Great call right now from a young woman who is a university student - she's highlighting that plenty of young women are also gender critical, and are sick and tired of being given all sorts of horrible labels just for stating biological facts. She's discussing the culture of secrecy and the threat of being removed from university societies or even the university itself for sharing gender critical views

Last caller of the hour just couldn't understand why he can't be allowed in women's spaces - loved Sheila dealing with them with compassion whilst not allowing him to change the facts that exist.

SF is very clear and good on this and Tom Swarbrick who’s on next, is excellent. James O’Brien, as expected, was awful. Noticeable that he seems to frequently get a very low number of callers on topics like this and I’m sure it’s because of his completely biaised opinion and lack of open discussion/debating skills. I know lots of people like him but I really don’t understand how he’s got such a prime slot.

'James O’Brien, as expected, was awful'

Truly awful, and so disingenuous. Pretending that he didn't understand why campaigners were openly celebrating outside the court, and encouraging a load of boo-hooing about trans people when the judgement explicitly said that they would continue to be protected from discrimination under the law

The researchers who take the calls filter the calls and only allow certain calls through. Same way certain back office researchers select the letters and emails that get through to MPs.

Shelagh has been so amazing on this subject. She is calm, clear, compassionate but unwavering. I very much enjoyed listening to her show this afternoon.

I think the student may be the same woman who asked Helen Joyce the final question in Oxford at the literary festival event the other week.
