How Mumsnet transformed Britain

Apologise if this has already been posted, I know someone linked to an article in the Telegraph not so long ago, I don't know if this is the one, this is from MSN and I can't find a date on the article to see if it's a new one.

‘It taps into the wisdom of eight million women’: How Mumsnet transformed Britain

"Other initiatives have fixed a spotlight on anything from school funding to pandemic support and getting retailers to stop selling products that project adult sexuality onto children."

(My bolding) perhaps Mumsnet could start another initiative to stop schools exposing children to highly inappropriate political propaganda about fantasy sexual fetishes.

'Transformed Britain!?'
Gosh MNers, you are a modest lot! I expected to see pages of woo-hoos! and yippees! and 'we transformed Britain!' and 'go us!' and that kind of thing by nowGrin

RedToothBrush · 12/03/2025 14:08

Gosh.

A positive article about MN which doesn't degrade us to soft brained gibbering idiots with a baby in arms.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 12/03/2025 14:15

8 million, that makes us a demographic, Mumsnet should qualify for a government grant or something 'To Help Promote Down To Earth Common Sense and Wisdom in an Ever Changing World'. 🎉😁👏

Well Stonewall got loads from the American government. Meanwhile the accusations at taking bungs were hurled at individuals who had fought their corner alone but we're supported by crowding funders on MN...

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/03/2025 14:25

I've been terfing for years. Still waiting for my cheque. and the right wing bastards sent it to Stonewall instead.

We also made the Economist How Mumsnet changed Britain

MN has been my primary source of information on many topics. Debate and logical discussion has helped me with awareness and to shift prior perspectives on really important issues.

I love it.

PersonIrresponsible · 12/03/2025 16:49

Mumsnet reinvigorated my interest in women's rights and concerns. Can't thank it enough

IwantToRetire · 12/03/2025 18:14

Has anyone read the comments?!

IwantToRetire · 12/03/2025 18:22

This is the original in the Telegraph https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/03/11/how-mumsnet-transformed-britain/

I think that sometimes not just msn but also yahoo reprint entire articles.

I wonder how many on FWR would agree with the Telegraph's assertion that:

But the overall political stance that emerges from the forums is a compassionate, common-sense kind of conservatism, rooted in the members’ experience of what works when it comes to doing best by your family rather than grand ideology. Ignore them – and Mumsnet – at your peril.

Britinme · 12/03/2025 22:47

Have you read the comments on that article? We are, apparently, a bunch of mindless lefties and also conservative. We are a bunch of mums with nothing better to do than post about things we know nothing about while little Jemima has her afternoon nap, and we are responsible for breaking up families by encouraging women to... not sure what but it seems to involve not being a doormat.

blueIKEAbag · 13/03/2025 11:29

I’ve learnt all I know about feminism, and many other things from Mumsnet.

Rightsraptor · 13/03/2025 11:35

I read it when appeared and there were very few comments, so I shall go back and re-read.

One of the examples of MN posts they gave was the current one about the fussy-eater husband, which has now exploded into something quite different. And it beautifully illustrates the power of MN, which is why some people hate it.

CaveMum · 13/03/2025 11:57

And this is why I keep saying we need a Mumsnet Party in politics.

We can draw on a wealth of experience across all government departments; potential candidates in every constituency in the UK, etc.

Datun · 13/03/2025 12:23

I'm constantly blown away at the way the women on mumsnet find stuff out.

Start a thread, five comments in, you'll get an expert.

Ten comments after that, you'll get another expert, but on a slightly different aspect.

The best is when two experts disagree.

That's when you really find stuff out.

Women backing up their argument, will do so with all the links, papers, articles, etc.

Unlike certain members of the other sex, whose membership of that sex is apparently qualification enough. 😁
