Police double down - male officers allowed to search women

To paraphrase a few big names from Twitter, police are proposing to let their male officers sexually assault women in certain circumstances (ie if they have a GRC).

You can read the full article on the archive site, but here’s an extract.

Documents seen by The Telegraph state: “The recommendation from the NPCC Lead for LGBTQ + is that a trans officer searches a person consistent with the officer’s sex as established by a gender recognition certificate [GRC].”

These proposals will be considered next month by the full NPCC before becoming official policy.

Something that occurred to me after posting, I'm assuming that WPCs are expected to strip search men, any men, who claim to be trans. I doubt strip searching anyone is pleasant for a WPC, but that must be awful. For a WPC to complain would be extremely difficult i imagine. She'd probably be made to think she's being a fragile flower and of all the 'this is why women shouldn't be coppers' sexist crap that would come out if she objected.

Write to your PCC and your Chief Constable for your policing area.

Also your MP

It's disgusting they ate thinking of doing this again.

And Yes any police woman who objects will face disciplinary action and any vulnerable women who objects to being searched could be charged with a hate crime

Who searches women who claim to have a trans identity? I believe, possibly because of the effect of wrong sex hormones, possibly because of the psychological problems that seem to go hand-in-hand with gender confusion, they're slightly more likely to commit crime than other women.

But I thought the comparator when discussing cases re treatment of a transwoman was another man not a biological woman???
Have I got that wrong?

Only if they don't have a GRC. Once they have a GRC the comparator changes - see R (Green) v SSfJ

Which is why, if institutions weren't so spineless and / or captured this should be challenged under the SSE.

Has the EHRC been asked to comment.
