What would be the best video or article, not too long, to share with a family member who seems to be on the cusp of realising I am not an evil person after all? I am thinking maybe a Helen Joyce interview?
I would appreciate advice/links as I am not as articulate as I would like to be. I think I got through on the point of puberty blockers, Cass review, prisons, but not on the men being women... (and trans people already having the same rights as everyone else).
TIA

I would direct them to any of the Gender: A Wider Lens podcasts/interviews. They cover such a lot (something for everyone) and the hosts are so obviously professionally concerned. The 'pioneers' series was very good and explored some of the history of trans. They are around an hour each but very interesting and thoughtful. I can't think of a short video, as all the punchy ones I've seen are pretty much clips of something longer.

I would probably steer away from the more political/terfy interviews, depending on your relation's own views, and flag up the ones by academics and others on more tangential aspects, eg DSDs, detransitioners, other cultures. They are an interesting listen in their own right and help chip away at the gospel of gender identity without taking a sledgehammer to it, so if you and your relative can agree these interviewees make some good points, maybe they will see you are not an intolerant bigot!

Some suggestions:

Ep. 36 - Carole Hooven
Ep. 38 - Claire Graham
Ep. 57 - Paul Vasey
Ep. 86 - Bob Ostertag
Ep. 89 - Ritchie Herron

Not all are on YouTube but they are on most podcast apps.

It's not short, but what about the documentary Adult Human Female? It's available on YouTube and I found it very accessible and watchable.

Thank you. I am going to watch these first and make sure I find the important statistics. (Relative has a mathematics degree and is very hot on stats).

Also very busy doing important work, so won't watch anything long... (man).

You need https://statsforgender.org/

Bear in mind a lot of the stats TRAs put out are not based on good data, eg surveys instead of studies, or high drop-out rate of participants, or only done over a very short period with no or little follow up. That is why the Cass Review was so important in highlighting the poor quality data on which people with alleged science backgrounds (doctors) were basing clinical decisions. Doctors are not statisticians.

It's longer but it's hard hitting

Behind the looking glass; transwidows

FranticFrankie · 23/02/2025 15:05

Transwidows for sure - fab but agree hard-hitting
Magdalen Berns???!
Chloe Cole? Keira Bell?

WarriorN · 23/02/2025 18:40

Actually for a bloke Dr Az would be great.

Travswidows will cover men being women but I also think blokes need to hear the arguments for men/ boys.

The other really good interview he's done is on Heretics with Andrew gold.

Also that documentary specifically about detrans men.

(Not this but might be worth it as is Times radio)

This one - dr Az is in it.

Travis Brown is a good

Helen Joyce in conversation with Richard Dawkins is very informative.

user3827 · 24/02/2025 15:52

Following!

I'm also looking for something 1. Hard hitting 2. Short, factual (10mins) 3. Can't be dismissed straight away eg "smells of right wing politics" 4. Can't be dismissed as vague/anti men. Need to convince a man as well who thinks it's all unimportant nonsense by hysterical women 🙄

heelander · 24/02/2025 18:48

I've been listening to The Wider Lens podcast and it's really interesting and insightful. However, I'm wary that they are referred to as 'extremists' so I am worried that they can be easily dismissed but also that, in recommending it, people can come to the conclusion that I am a bigot and an extremist!

Anything with Helrn Joyce, maybe this Triggernometry one

Was a wee while ago but really sets out the basics.

This site is fab. Thank you for the link.
@Paragonfoodie suggest you give this link - instead of a video - to your stats-savvy family member. In the 30 minutes it would take to watch a video they will find lots of information to surprise them and not be able to shrug it off. It's facts and arranged in a way that they can start with the bit that most interests them. Powerful and effective.
