“Liberal Democrats are committed to respecting and defending the rights of all people, and to combating all forms of prejudice and discrimination. Our party policy is clear on these issues.”

But only really when we’ve been told we’re breaking the law and we wouldn’t win in open court, then we’ll pretend to be as respectful as you like. Wan.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 20/02/2025 07:23

I had added 4 stars after the final word but it didn’t show up 😂

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2025 07:30

Long overdue. It's depressing but useful to know that money talks even when logic, reason, science, common sense etc etc have all failed.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 20/02/2025 07:32

The message is getting through. Shame they have to be forced not to discriminate through legal action.

I'm sure they will find other ways to make life difficult for those with GC beliefs.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2025 07:34

Many thanks for the share token!

CarefulN0w · 20/02/2025 07:40

Sir Ed Davey’s party have agreed to “draw a line under this period of intolerance”

How fucking dare they draw a line under their harassment and bullying? They need to acknowledge that biological sex is real and apologise to the women they have harmed in capitulating to ideology instead of reality.

Lovelyview · 20/02/2025 07:48

That's such good news. Well done LVW! I really admire people who struggle on for years campaigning within their parties. It must be soul destroying to have your perfectly reasonable views vilified. I hope it will also enable quiet supporters within the Lib Dems to speak up.

mrshoho · 20/02/2025 07:53

Huge congratulations to LVW. Staying in a party and bringing change from within when all around are against you is a hard task.

Shame on the Lib Dems for the way they treated these members.

Couldn't agree more @CarefulN0w whilst it's a minor step in the right direction, it's a graceless forced one. Nothing less than a full and public apology and an internal review of how we got here will do. Until then, I wouldn't trust them to run a bath.

I want a reverse Ferring thanks.

'The agreement was confirmed in a letter to LVW from Mike Dixon, the party’s chief executive, who wrote: “The Liberal Democrats recognise that Liberal Voice for Women is entitled not to be discriminated against in respect of the lawfully held protected beliefs”.'

Jesus, through gritted teeth.

'Hollowood said: “The legal case we brought finally gave party officers a reason to overrule the trans lobby on fiduciary grounds”.'

Never mind women's rights, concentrate on the fiduciary grounds!

I think it equates to ‘sorry, not sorry’ doesn’t it? Do they think informed women don’t hear about this stuff? 🤦‍♀️

fromorbit · 20/02/2025 08:17

Amazing news!

Bad news for the sexists in the Greens, SNP and Plaid the last three mainstream parties that have leadership that deny women exist. The lawsuits are coming you will lose.

Biology is real!

2025 is turning out to be a real tipping point in the gender wars.

BezMills · 20/02/2025 08:19

LDs - nothing to see here

Internet - WE KEPT THE RECEIPTS

Username65 · 20/02/2025 08:22

I didn’t have time to comment when I posted the article, but am I right in thinking that the LDs still haven’t responded to the Cass Report?

Faffertea · 20/02/2025 08:26

Well done to LVW.

Im afraid the fact that the party have only reluctantly backed down when they realised they were facing a legal case they wouldn’t win isn’t enough for me to vote for them again- and I have voted Lib Dem in the past.

They openly said they didn’t want people who don’t believe the TRA mantra voting for them. Until they openly acknowledge and apologise for this they won’t be getting my vote.

myplace · 20/02/2025 08:34

Clutching at straws here… did they mean a fiduciary reason to deny the trans lobby as opposed to a reason common sense, respect for women that could be called bigotry?

was it the TRAs crowing about not wanting the votes of bigots while sensible people dithered about how to avoid the wrath of the blue haired?

Rightsraptor · 20/02/2025 08:41

I think it was Baroness Featherstone (LD) who had some extremely pithy things to say about sex realist women and thought they should thrown out of the party. So much for a wide range of views.

Helleofabore · 20/02/2025 08:44

Baby steps still. As people generally start to understand that gender identity is philosophical and a medical condition, the carefully curated reasons for giving the group additional privileges crumbles away.

The political parties will have to accept that they have allowed extreme groups to have more power than they ought and that they allowed harm to others.

I know that my LD MP has been very reluctant to acknowledge that harm that we have been pointing out to them for years. But maybe the court cases this year will allow them to actually listen to the women writing letters.

borntobequiet · 20/02/2025 08:50

My local party is totally captured, I can’t see this making a difference. But good news nonetheless.

PriOn1 · 20/02/2025 09:01

Thank you for sharing that, OP. I saw a link on Twitter this morning, but couldn’t read the article. The impression I had from the post I saw was that the Lib Dems were finally beginning to see the light and accept these women. Having read the article, it’s obvious that instead, they have been forced to recognize the illegality of their viewpoint, but without that denting their viewpoint one iota.

It is then, an interesting situation. Now having the legal right to set up a stand at conference, will these women be able to withstand the bullying and harassment they will undoubtedly receive if they take up that legal right? Will other women in the party dare to stand beside them?

Whatever the outcome, they are utterly courageous women. I hope that, in time, they will be recognised as such by the party they clearly value enormously. They are likely entering into a period of martyrdom and I hope they come out the other side relatively unscathed.

Davey claimed that women "quite clearly" can have a penis

https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/women-quite-clearly-can-have-penis-ed-davey-says/

Is he ready to draw a line under that period of stupidity?

FlowchartRequired · 20/02/2025 09:11

LVW should go to the conference and they should wear body cams and livestream the footage. If anyone harasses them, it will be on camera.

Operation Let Them Speak.

Yeah, it does.
Well done to LVW, though. I bailed out of the party long ago over this issue (2020 to be precise) when I got an email back from Ed Davey's office telling me that "supporting trans rights does not contradict supporting women, as the law already makes clear that trans women are women'. Lying bastards.
Tossers hadn't answered a single one of my substantive questions.
I was livid, and told them I was out, and didn't get a reply. My blood pressure is going up just remembering it all.

They've got to do better than this gritted-teeth we-can't-afford-not-to approach if they want to be taken seriously. I utterly despise the LD leadership, which is a crying shame as a lot of their local councillors are really good people.

But receipts. Yep, I have receipts. I can forgive, but I don't forget.

ArabellaScott · 20/02/2025 09:49

Same, Edith. My party of choice and who I usually vote for, but I cannot just shrug this off.

I suppose like Helle says it's the start of the road back to sense, but my word. That they can't admit that they've been so wrong does not inspire confidence.
