Not only 2 males included but apparently they pimped out the children who lived there.

Wikipedia entry about STAR.

Fundraising event for the STAR house in November 1970 (doesn't say opening date) and it operated until July 1971.

Interesting to read why STAR itself stopped - pushback from lesbians against transvestites!

As I'm sure others have discovered it's impossible to archive this individual page in archive.ph - it defaults to the main page

Edit: I can't get this to look right as a link.

This strikes me as being written by an intern and not by anyone who has any experience of real life motherhood.

100% - its like they googled mother and wrote about the first things that cropped up. I’m just amazed Taylor Swift isn’t on it tbh Grin. (Massive fan and don’t have anything against her, just think it’s funny that her fans call her mother).

They are reviewing my screenshot so not sure when you'll see it

Four of the mums on this list are inspirational. The rest are not inspirational. Or even mums, in some cases.

Great post here (links through)

"For the BBC to honor men for International Women’s Day is an insult to all women. To honor these men as mothers is an affront so great that it is practically a declaration of war. No man is a mother, and no man should be honored as the woman he is not."

What an absolute batshit mental list.

What a disappointment modern life is again.

Oh how I share this sentiment...

CorruptedCauldron · 20/02/2025 10:16

Stop indoctrinating six-year-old kids into queer theory please, BBC! Drag queens aren’t any kind of mother. Men aren’t mothers. This was a tiny list of inspirational mums. Why the need to centre men?

This strikes me as being written by an intern and not by anyone who has any experience of real life motherhood.

and someone who has little respect for their own mother

Fenlandia · 20/02/2025 11:58

The modern BBC is such a strange beast. Obsessed with drag queens and infantilising lgbtq content that doesn't reflect the lives of ordinary gay people. Could they really not have found more British mothers for this list, historical or otherwise? Just in my own little world, I know mothers fighting like tigers for their disabled kids, or helping their kids become great athletes or musicians, or having fulfilling jobs balancing with family life.

What is the shared womb thing?? A baby that was gestated in two wombs?

I hadn't heard of this one. What on earth is inspirational about that? I'd also question its suitability for a platform designed for little ones who still like Peter Rabbit.

zanahoria · 20/02/2025 14:00

Were they even acting in loco parentis? The STAR house ran was a hostel for youngsters. If they did it was only short term. The house operated for less than year so not sure if they adopted the role long term, which is essential to being an actual parent.

Why the need to give the term 'mother' to carers who are not actually raising kids? It just taps into the need for transwomen to claim everything that women have.

BTW

The T in STAR stood for Transvestite a male who dresses as a female but does not believe he is one.

Igmum · 22/02/2025 15:25

Oh FFS BBC 🤦‍♀️ do they have a special team somewhere coming up with these ideas or is there an internal competition in which employees vie with each other to introduce drag queens into every single story?
