Labour LGB group launch - drama ensues

The gender civil wars inside Labour have reached a new level with the launch of a new group for gay/bi people.

Dee McCullough, a spokesperson for Labour LGB, said: “We are a coalition of proud Labour Party LGB members.

“The last Labour government delivered a raft of landmark reforms that we celebrate. Civil partnerships, equal age of consent, equal employment rights, adoption law reform and abolishing Section 28 to name a few. In the years ahead, we need to be vigilant in maintaining these rights. We must defend the Equality Act which spelled out that sexual orientation is a protected characteristic.

“We want to ensure that the Labour government continues to accept that same-sex attraction is real and that biology matters. These principles must be embedded in legislative proposals and in government policy.

“We would encourage Labour Party LGB members to join Labour LGB. In the ongoing debate about LGB rights within the party, the voices of LGB people must be heard in branches, CLPs, at party conference and in Parliament. The campaign for equality never ends.”

Note the launch gets an article in Labour List the biggest site for internal Labour news.
Labour LGB: Affiliate stung by second splinter group over trans rights
https://labourlist.org/2025/02/labour-lgb-splinter-group-trans-rights/

The TAs are livid. They have already have two groups which are fighting for Trans supremacy in the party Pride in Labour [don't be fooled by the name] and Labour for Trans Rights.

All of these groups are rivals to the official affiliate LGBT Labour - which is too sexist for reality knowers and too realistic for full blown TAs .

Alongside this we have the Lesbian Labour group [formed in October 2020 never got an article about it wonder why?], and of course the Labour Women's Declaration group who have official recognition to attend conferences and have 4 ministers in power right now.

A spokesperson for Labour Women’s Declaration backed the new group and said: “Why is it ok for trans organisations to organise separately, covering one of the Equality Act’s protected characteristics, but not for lesbian, gay and bisexuals to organise separately? They cover an entirely different protected characteristic, that of same-sex sexual attraction.
“Labour LGB is not objecting to the existence of groups which just focus on transgender rights.”

Following the recent tactical leak from Labour insiders indicating that genderism is now seen as a liability it is clear that a chunk of the Labour leadership desperately want this to all to go away without having to say the truth that the "Terfs were right all along" or do anything too much to stop gender madness in public institutions.

The problem is the unions and other places [see recent Unison vote] are full of rabid TAs who will happily destroy Labour and everything else to humiliate women and gay people.

Genderism is only going to get more and more unpopular - they can't help themselves - the Peggie witch trial right now is part of that. This internal war inside Labour is only going to get more heated as the truth spreads. Sooner or later Labour are going to have decide what they believe - and decide whether that is biology is actually real. Because it is going to be coming up in elections and it is a wedge issue.

Another article on Welsh politics from Labour List reveals that reality they start by stating the problem about gender then avoid talking about it for rest of the article hilariously:

‘Welsh Labour prepares to fight or fall in the culture war as Reform threat looms’
https://labourlist.org/2025/02/welsh-labour-reform-uk-threat-senedd/

“No, I won’t be voting Labour. They don’t even know what a woman is.” The door slams in my face on a cold Saturday morning.

Since his unceremonious exit from leadership, Davies’ online presence has become even more incendiary, parroting the most reactionary talking points of the far-right.

From halal meat to grooming gangs, his fixation on the latter topic barely mentioned in Welsh political life before Elon Musk’s intervention earlier this year highlights the opportunism at play. The Welsh Conservatives, rather than setting the political agenda, have instead become slaves to the latest online outrage.

Reform is going to sweep the Valleys. You see if I'm wrong.

Thanks fromorbit. It is great to see groups being formed that people feel represent them best in these political parties. Hopefully it will make others feel they are supported in discussing what they need from their party.

What an infuriating article the second one is. 🤬

"Welsh Labour has largely sought to manage the culture war rather than engage in it directly."

Because that's what you do with the concerns women raise, you 'manage' them

"An ugly culture war has upended Welsh politics, and the way things have always been done is no more."

Good because the way you've been doing things up to now have turned us into a third world country, where we are failing on every level.

"For over two decades, Wales has been defined by a relatively stable political landscape, with Welsh Labour as the dominant force"

The turn out for the last election was 45% because for 2 decades you've failed to make yourselves relevant to the Welsh electret
.
I'll stop now because I've hijacked the thread.🤬

My apologies to the OP, thanks for sharing.

Yes, the disdain and sneer is pretty evident.

It's interesting to read how the man is repulsed by some voters. Very emotive language.

ArabellaScott · 17/02/2025 15:58

And thanks, OP. Everlasting gratitude to the brave women who continue to slog on in hostile environments.

SionnachRuadh · 17/02/2025 16:04

I mean it's bloody typical of Welsh Labour in that they see the voters as a problem to be managed. That's what a century of not being seriously challenged will do to a party.

It's not been helped either by Plaid folding into a position of "whatever Labour wants, but with a Welsh translation", like they were one of the CCP's pocket United Front parties in China. I'm sure Rhun ap Iorwerth didn't go into politics to be the General Secretary of the Left Kuomintang, but here we are.

TempestTost · 17/02/2025 16:52

Here's a question - are these identity groupings within parties ultimately better than individual MPs and members acting according to their particular beliefs and interests?

Draigosaurus · 17/02/2025 17:40

That second article!

“Welsh Labour has largely sought to manage the culture war rather than engage in it directly. In many ways, this is a necessity: Wales is more socially conservative than some of its Labour heartland counterparts, with an electorate that, in many places, closely resembles the ‘Red Wall’ seats just across the border in England.”

What does he mean by “more socially conservative” when he compares the electorate with “red wall” seats? By socially conservative, does he mean working class?

Scrolling down, he says this…

“The arrival of culture war politics in Wales is an unwelcome import. But the challenge now facing Welsh Labour is how to push back against this divisive rhetoric without alienating the voters it has long relied on, who sympathise with Davies and Reform’s anti-migrant dog whistles.”

So perhaps by socially conservative he means racist?

And, hilariously, he fails to recognise that Welsh Labour’s TWAW mantra IS Labour engaging in the culture war. It’s just that Plaid and the Lib Dems agree with them.

Though it seems unfathomable, Labour will fight the Senedd elections without mentioning the lightning rod issues of migration at all.”

Not that unfathomable. Immigration is the UK Government’s responsibility, not the Senedd’s. How would they fight an election on something they aren’t responsible for? It would be like a local council fighting an election on changes to the state pension, for instance. That won’t stop Reform though, I guess.

Igmum · 17/02/2025 18:22

Well done Labour LGB. And of course LGB needs representation away from the T. (And of course the TRAs are throwing their toys out of the pram.)

Agreed Welsh Labour is in deep deep trouble. Genderism is just one part of it.

Meanwhile in Scotland
GENDER ROW
Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar backs NHS nurse over women-only spaces amid Fife trans doctor row
Mr Sarwar has called for 'clear guidance' to be set out

https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/14355676/anas-sarwar-fife-trans-doctor-sandie-peggie-beth-upton/

The article points out Sarwar is reverse ferretting from pretending women didn't exist a few years ago.

However he now recognises there is a PROBLEM which is more than many in Welsh Labour do. He is also signaling he is going to use gender as a weapon against the SNP in 2026 election. Sensible move given SNP's rise in the polls. Yet it is going to make things messy for Labour elsewhere.

No easy way out for Labour from the gender wars. There is NO sustainable middle of the road position because TA fanatics will always demand more.

Going to add to this thread rather than creating new one:

Lesbian Labour meet Labour MPs

Lesbian Labour made history today when we met several MPs for a constructive meeting focusing on the consequences of lesbian erasure.
https://x.com/LesbianLabour/status/1894405804612358444

Yes we did, in a meeting room inside Westminster. We were pleased with the attendance & those MPs who had planned to come but were listening to the statement on defence sent their apologies. We have waited a long time for this but lesbians voices were heard in Westminster today.
