A heterosexual, middle-class, well-educated white male doctor is not oppressed or marginalised. He’s privileged as feck. However, all that changes with the simple application of lipstick and pronouns. Now he has oppressed victim status. This means he can hound women - actual women, who experience sexism as a result of their biology - out of their jobs for failing to validate his nebulous gender identity.
Dr U may have genuine gender dysphoria. I do sympathise with dysphoric trans people because at least they’re not doing it for shits and giggles. Even so, M to F transitioners need to respect women’s spaces and understand that gender identity is intangible, ethereal, and cannot be proven, while sex is real. It matters.
Sandie couldn’t win, eh Doc? She looks at you, she’s a bigot. She doesn’t look at you, she’s a bigot. She waits for you to finish changing, without complaining, she’s a bigot. She finally complains, when you’re lurking in the room she needs to use after she’s suffered a menstrual flooding incident. You couldn’t care less about her needs, her dignity or privacy. But now she’s worse than just a common or garden bigot. She’s actually really scary now and is making you feel unsafe.
A strapping young 6ft man is frightened of a 5ft 6 middle-aged woman because she dares to assert her boundaries and needs. It’s a shock isn’t it, to discover that not all women are going to be your cheerleaders? To think that women actually need some things for themselves and couldn’t care less about your nebulous gender identity when it comes into conflict with the very real issue of biological sex and women’s sex-based rights and needs?
This whole case makes me think the world has gone bonkers. The fault lies with the mantra, trans women are women, trans men are men. No they’re not. Change gender all you like but nobody changes sex.
Women need their spaces, their sports and their language. That is not hateful. It’s common sense. You do you, Doctor U, but only if it is not affecting anyone else. That means sorting out your own space to get changed.
Bravo to this newspaper for using fact-based pronouns.
