Sonia Sodha on Fife case

Excellent piece so I thought it needed sharing separately. It also seems to be a bit buried on the Guardian site and is in the middle of thread no7 so some people may have missed it.

Agree it's a great article.

liveandlearn73628 · 09/02/2025 16:17

Sonia Sodha is amazing. Because she's in the Guardian website means the lefties might actually read it and not dismiss it as right wing hysteria.

HarpyOfACertainAge · 09/02/2025 16:38

It's a great article. I have sent it to one of my 'be kind' friends because she is much more likely to read it if it's under a Guardian banner rather than something from the nasty right-wing press.

FigRollsAlly · 09/02/2025 17:55

Love Sonia! As pp said, she’s been really excellent on this for some time now both in print and on TV, way back before the tide showed signs of turning.

IwantToRetire · 09/02/2025 18:23

Its good to see this article because there were worries about what would happen at the Observer following its sale.

And as a PP said, as someone who hasn't been able to keep up with all the threads, seems to have set out the situation that led to the court case really clearly.

I always wonder when they dont allow comments in response to an article but do allow you to write in. I suspect this is so they can set the tone of any responses, whereas if you seem them as they are entered online you get a much better idea of the response to an article.

Just to add that I think Sandie Peggie has been astoundingly brave and having to act as an isoloted individual. Its shocking. Flowers

Excellent article. I do hope Guardian readers see it.

Well it is IN the Guardian...

Yep because all sensible guardian readers including myself left a few years ago because of how blinkered they were becoming. It's just the tra readers left now tbh. The guardian is spineless on women's rights. I'm glad at the minute the observer still sits under the main paper so that this article is seen by the few remaining diddly dee-ers as I call them who are still singing be kind be kind without actually engaging their brains. Maybe this will give them a nudge towards sanity.

Foxy Kimono is planning on taking legal advice on this piece (on Bluesky which I saw via X). I also learnt this week apparently two of his children identify as the opposite sex, not just one.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 09/02/2025 20:00

My son who is a former left winger says he can no longer support the left because of the whole trans stuff. Some of the Guardian journalists have obviously woken up to the fact the left will be sidelined and out of power for a long time after American voters expressed their revulsion for the trans ideology which will have a knock on effect here. They scent that Reform will be in power in 5 years time. Whether they learn anything from the Trump victory is another matter.

That explains everything! Two though? God what must family life be like in that family. I wonder if they transitioned before or after witnessing their father dressed in their mother's kimono bash a fox to death.

Anyone got an archive of this article? left the G years ago.

Chersfrozenface · 10/02/2025 06:16

You can read articles on the Graun's website for free, and every click on Sonia Sodha's piece keeps it in the top ten Most Read in Opinion and Across The Site - currently still 7th in both.

Two letters in reply were published in today's Observer: https://www.theguardian.com/theobserver/2025/feb/16/female-only-spaces-are-a-safety-issue

Thanks for the link; and the next letter about commercial surrogacy was good too.

CrossPurposes · 16/02/2025 17:16

And the second from M Spring is a pile of nonsense with the usual trans activist talking points. <yawn>

Mollyollydolly · 16/02/2025 19:59

Bindel was making the point on X that The Guardian haven't covered the Fife case at all. If it wasn't for Sonia and the Observer there would be nothing on their website. Incredible that they haven't covered it at all.

Is that like the thing toddlers do? Cover your eyes - if you can't see it, it doesn't exist.

NonCrimeHakeIncident · 16/02/2025 20:10

I think we all know what sex M Spring is.

Women need to fight patriarchal oppression in a united format, accepting both cis and trans experiences, instead of punishing each other for a perceived lack of adequate “femaleness”.

Does this person think we're concerned that they don't think we're womanly enough Grin

needmoresheep · 17/02/2025 09:39

I am a gamer and have come across a number of Americans who voted for Trump because he understands the difference between male and female. They recognise he is a maverick but were increasingly frustrated by all these new ideologies. That needs to be a warning message to all.
