Trans extremists have corrupted DEI, says gay rights group

Corporate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies have been corrupted by “misogynistic” and “homophobic” trans extremists, a gay rights group has claimed.

The Lesbians, Gay men and Bisexuals (LGB) Alliance has called for bosses to “re-establish robust protections for freedom of speech and conscience” within the workplace, amid concerns that pro-trans elements are seeking to silence gender critical views.
The organisation said the replacement of women’s lavatories with gender neutral facilities, enforced pronoun usage and the bullying of employees who state a belief in biological sex were all areas of concern.

Simon White, who is involved with the LGB Alliance, said some DEI initiatives had “been corrupted by powerful lobby groups that present the law as they’d like it to be rather than how it actually is” and turned “workplaces into battlegrounds in the culture war”.

“Worst of all, the internal staff networks which should stand up for LGB people have been co-opted by extremists focused on advancing a narrow, misogynistic and homophobic interpretation of ‘trans rights’.”

While I understand what he's getting at, I think identity based social justice was always going to backfire. It was the adoption of that thinking that created the corruption, before trans issues ever exploded.

But mostly what I wish is that workplaces would get out of the business of moralizing to their employees, trying to manage their emotional lives, and really getting involved in anything beyond the real requirements of their business. I don't really want my employer, or even a staff network, trying to educate me about things that don't pertain directly to my job, or trying to involve me in social justice movements I don't choose to be involved in, or anything else. Not only are those things outside of their remit, I don't see how they have any kind of special moral authority or expertise compared to any random employee. It's like being subjected to lectures on Scientology at work.

Human resources of course have a responsibility to make sure employees are respectful and appropriate to other workers and clients, but that's as far as it goes.
