Wish I could be there.

AlisonDonut · 04/02/2025 18:02

I have friends going.

If I didn't hate Nottingham so much these days I'd be jealous.

letwomenexist · 07/02/2025 16:13

At the Brian Clough statue 1pm

Just watched Posie and the police conversation - I'm not impressed with the police response at all. She says they'll move the rally to the nearest open police station if the women aren't protected!
Where are the men to step up and protect those women?!

Thelnebriati · 07/02/2025 23:38

Nottingham police treat misogyny as a hate crime, every incident can be reported.
This from the Women's Centre (which used to be single sex but is now single gender);

I think it's fair to say that Notts Police do not support women's rights of freedom of association, freedom to assemble without harassment or freedom to speak in public.

NotNowFGS · 08/02/2025 18:01

I went along. By the time I'd got there at 1.30 the LWS group were in a tiny space outside the main police station on a big roundabout that's under construction on the edge of the city centre. I passed the TRAs enjoying the central space of the old market square. It won't do - let women speak and be seen to speak!

MarieDeGournay · 08/02/2025 18:56

Looking forward to finding out more detail about what happened.

myplace · 08/02/2025 18:58

ah, I’m Nottingham. I didn’t realise though realistically wouldn’t have managed it anyway.

JumpingPumpkin · 09/02/2025 09:24

One local MP was there to stop women speaking

Nadia Whittome tweeted

"Nottingham has a proud tradition of solidarity. We look after each other and we don’t fall for con artists playing divide and rule.

So, in our hundreds, we showed the small anti-trans march that their views are not welcome. Their movement is a danger to trans people and women."

Appalling. It felt genuinely threatening to be slowly surrounded by a large grouo.

Thelnebriati · 09/02/2025 09:41

''Nottingham has a proud tradition of solidarity.''

JFC. No solidarity with women, and that's a tone deaf comment about a community that is still divided by the miners strike.

Toseland · 09/02/2025 09:42

Oh so it's a bit clearer - the Nottingham MP didn't want women to meet or speak and has actually lead a group of protesters against the women. I wonder if/what she advised to the Police?
I can't imagine any other group holding a rally being allowed to be attacked, drowned out and mobbed in this way?!

Nottingham's ‘proud history’ includes enabling gang violence that saw the murders of women and a little girl, a former police chief speaking out about toxic misogyny, undercover police officers infiltrating environmental groups and having relationships with the women they were spying on, which was devastating and traumatic for the women concerned when it came to light, and banning Julie Bindel from speaking about women’s rights in a local library. So well done Nadia Whittome - by silencing women further, you’re sure helping the city to move on from its terrible track record on women’s rights.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/02/2025 10:01

Nadia Whittome who happily shared a platform with violent TRA thug and misogynist Sarah Jane Baker?

She is so dim it's painful.

Hello @JumpingPumpkin. Was Whittome actually there, or just using that form of words to strongly imply that she was? I certainly didn't see her, and I walked past the whole of the bullies' mob on my way down to the LWS position, and even stood and listened to some of the nonsense from their speakers before I worked out where the actual women were regrouping. I can't remember anyone mentioning that Whittome was there, and surely someone would have? I don't imagine Kellie Jay would have failed to notice her, or mention it? I wouldn't put it past her (Whittome) to attempt to appropriate this particular band wagon to virtue signal to her fellow numpties in the Omnicause..

JumpingPumpkin · 09/02/2025 11:18

I didn't see her either, but this a link to her speaking after we moved to the police station.

Perhaps she came down after we got shoved off the square. I suppose plausible deniability is a useful thing for a politician.

Nadia Witless 😄

Credit to KJK for that one, I'm sure she's not the first to say it but she was the one to say it yesterday very loudly over a speaker in a public place!

I think you're mistaking her for possibly understanding the issue with intimidation and freedom of speech. She is proud to have been there.

JumpingPumpkin · 09/02/2025 11:46

Oh, I've just realised I know who you are Ginosaur! Sorry I am so very dim myself Blush.

CompleteGinasaur · 09/02/2025 11:47

I don't know how the hell I got to my age and somehow still maintain such an optimistic view of human (or politician, which is not quite the same thing) nature. You're absolutely right, of course.

CompleteGinasaur · 09/02/2025 11:48

Sorry, Pumpkin. @JumpingPumpkin is a lot more recognisable, in your defence!

Toseland · 09/02/2025 12:18

She's posted this photo and a message on her twitter account.
