Vigil for Afghan Women & Girls disrupted by abuse-hurling from a city councillor

So there we were on Saturday, holding a silent vigil in the centre of Norwich in solidarity with Afghan women & girls - a group of us including Jewish & Muslim women and a baby in a pushchair.

And we got a torrent of abuse from… no, not actually the Taliban, but an elected City Councillor, a trans-identified woman, shouting that we were Nazis & “transphobes” (she knows some of us to be Jewish).

Not that the vigil, which lasted all of 30 minutes, was anything about “trans”.

Except in the terms of that meme “It’s transphobic! What was the question?”

That sounds as if Charlie Caine has serious mental issues and needs counselling to return to being a woman rather than pretending to be a man. Could be trauma of some event in her past which is causing the entire trans thing.

It's a technique.

Become parasitic in existing movements about other issues, which have lots of supporters, and try to take those supporters with you.

Bonus points if it's an organisation you didn't like in the first place, and your parasitism destroys it after it's finished being useful to you.

I can’t diagnose, but a lot of people who have known her since she was a kid have felt she’s unhinged, and I doubt taking steroids like Testosterone is helping.

I'll take it in that spirit, the unloading of fury and hatred, and I won't take it personally.
I hope other posters agree - it's not worth getting worked up about a post like this, it's sad that are people who carry around hatred like this.

Great that the BBC are covering this in a decent way they actually beat the Mail and Telegraph for a change and I imagine the rest of the press will not be far behind in covering this madness. More sunlight!

The Eastern Daily Press have run another article their original story was great in breaking the news. Sounds like the local Greens are split between TA bigots and normal people.

Remember it is 3 months to the local elections the Greens need to learn that denying women exist is crazy and will cost them votes. The Norfolk elections are not coming till 2026 but stories like this have an impact UK wide. Normality is resuming. Men and women are real. Telling the truth is not evil denying the truth is.

Local people keep complaining to everyone.

Over on Twitter on the Norwich Women’s Rights Group a poor dupe “Actually Autistic” “Trans Ally” has been pushing Caine’s “side” of the story - ie lies - and continuing the harassment.

Until one of our members DMed him the crime report number & mentioned that the investigating officer was keen to get in touch with Cllr Caine, & could he pass the message on.

And just like that, it’s gone!

members held a vigil for the women of Afghanistan, one of many across the UK.

If Councillor Charlie Caine hadn't shouted slurs at the assembled women, there would be no row.

Caine's behaviour was abhorrent, Councillor Oliver.

Meanwhile, on the EDP Facebook page, someone has just explained that they don’t object to supporting women & girls (of COURSE they don’t!) but that it’s OK to abuse & harass US (probably also the baby) because transphobes, Nazis, etc etc.

Which suggests they’re justifying abusing & harassing us anywhere: walking the dog, popping into the shops: anywhere!

Apparently, it's possible to make a 3rd party complaint to the Green Party CEO about safeguarding and abuse.
I'm asking around to find out how you're supposed to do it.

Do they not see the stupidity of what they are saying. Women in Afghanistan can’t identify out of their oppression. Their oppression is sex based.

The Green Party chair on Norwich Council’s inbox seems to be full: no emails getting through, including forwarded complaints.

Didn’t Amnesty (who I used to support) say women & girls in Afghanistan are oppressed “because they identify as women”.

Like: silly girls, why don’t you just cut off your breasts & take steroids? A small price to pay for being allowed to learn to read & write.
