“There was no consistent definition for VAWG – the Home Office includes all victims, while police forces only include women and girls – which “made it difficult to measure progress in a consistent way”.

as we’ve said many times, you cannot defend what you cannot define especially as we know many police forces definition of women and girls includes men and boys

so little value are women given by society that it seems it literally never occurred to people happily allowing men with womanly feels to have wherever they wanted of women’s spaces/organisations/programmes/prizes/sports to ask how women felt about it. We just don’t matter.

so the signal sent loud and clear by public institutions/companies/media everywhere is that women don’t matter. Do what you like to them, there’s nothing they can do about it.

add in violent porn being available everywhere all the time at the drop of a hat and that there’s no social Shame at all in accessing it whenever anyone feels like. Yes watch it on the morning commute, what’s your problem?? Are you just vanilla?? Are you kink shaming??

and then they wonder why women and girls are treated as unimportant receptacles of male needs, just there to service and support and if she won’t, well there are ways of dealing with that

its so fucking depressing

Thank you for the link OP.
I'm posting these links to Sky News reports, not because I think highly of Sky News, but because it is good that the issue of VAWG is getting this coverage on 'MSM', and it proves that you [one] doesn't have to do any difficult research on specialist sites to get the facts about VAWG, i.e. there's no excuse for feigned ignorance of the scale of the problem.

This is the link to the actual report.

Its strange that the Audit Office report is getting this publicity when the groups on the frontline of supporting women have been saying this for years.

Although of course not a surprise that neither the media nor the Government think when women say something they dont need to bother to listen, but if an authority does they do!

I had a meeting with my local MP about the issue today. We actually have reasonable laws but the police don't implement them - the Domestic Abuse Act and Non Fatal Strangulation Act 2022 both cover that you can't consent to serious harm for sexual gratification. The injury threshold is actual bodily harm. There have also been policy papers. We may as well just set our tax money on fire when it comes to this issue. What's the point of spending money on laws and policy papers if they're being ignored?

Liz Longhurst, whose daughter was murdered by a man acting out the pornography he'd viewed, fought for legislative change to make possessing similar violent videos illegal.

That legislation has similarly gone unused.

This has come up on other threads.

There is a whole series of decision making which are far more influenced by lack of funding than police actively not doing their job (although many dont).

1 there is a shortage of courts - literally - some are so old they are too dangerous to be used
2 cases only get to court if the CPS thinks they are going to win (to make their stats look good)
3 the police know this about the CPS so unless it is an open and shut case they dont even bother asking the CPS (one of the biggest reasons for few rape cases get to court, because even if from a legal point of few it seems a clear case, too often juries will not go for a guilty verdict as they think its not fair a man's reputation will be tarnished)
4 there are too few police, and as we are endlessly finding out many are badly trained and many are just hostile males

That's the whole point of this report, that all of these isolated bits that look good dont work together because of the factors I've listed above, and because different arms of the government dont know about collaborative working.

Fromo the report:

Violence against women and girls is a significant and growing problem, affecting one in 12 women and causing significant harm. The Home Office leads the government’s efforts to address VAWG, but to date these efforts have not improved outcomes for the victims of these crimes or the safety of women and girls more widely.

The Home Office is not currently leading an effective cross-government response. It has a limited understanding of the extent of resources devoted to addressing VAWG across government and the impact this is having. Without this knowledge, the Home Office cannot be confident that the government is doing the best it can to keep women and girls safe.

The new government has set an ambitious target to halve violence against women and girls within the next decade. To meet this ambition the Home Office will need to lead a coordinated, whole-system response that addresses the causes of VAWG.

The Home Office’s review of the existing evidence base could provide a foundation from which to develop the next strategy. But it will need to maintain a focus on continuous evaluation to ensure it can capture learning from local innovation and adapt its approach. The Home Office also needs to quickly establish the structures and incentives necessary to align all delivery partners behind the goal of reducing the significant harms caused by violence against women and girls.
