Health form “assigned gender at birth”

Mittens67 · 15/01/2025 21:04

Just completed my pre mri safety questionnaire for an mri scan tomorrow. Have crossed out “assigned gender at birth” question and written “my sex is a biological fact and I am female”.
Now wondering if I will get a stroppy trans supporter, a secret sign of approval from a fellow sex realist or just a professional non reaction.
Either way I can’t go along with this nonsense and from the NHS above all.
Anyone ever been questioned when they have changed a health form to reflect reality?

I work in a lab where biological sex is obvious from the test results.
We always have to run extra tests if our result does not seem to match that stated on a referral form, which can delay treatment. ( to exclude the possibility of a sample mix up for example)
It happens more often than it should. It is never a sample mix up just an inaccurate health record.
This issue is vital in healthcare.

What I meant to add OP is thank you for doing this in your form, I feel like the more it is challenged, the more likely we are to go back to recording actual information on forms.

I always do similar on forms and never been questioned.

I was rather snappy and exasperated with a 999 call handler once though, as I had already told her probable destination, the reg plate, car details and description of the fall down drunk woman who I was watching driving off ….and she then wanted to know whether I identified as female. “What? I am female, obviously. I don’t ’identify’ - I’m AM a woman”.

I'm sure it makes the whole gender issue bigger than it needs to be that people are always asking for gender in contexts where it isn't relevant. Why does the 999 call handler need to know in this instance? Why, when I do contracted work, do I need to fill it in on payment claim form alongside my name, address and NI number?

A society committed to treating men and women equally shouldn't need to ask people how they identify at every turn. If it doesn't affect the service you're providing (and in most cases it is illegal to provide a different service on the basis of sex), don't ask for it! I'm sure some people's gender dysphoria would be easier to deal with if people weren't constantly screaming ARE YOU A MAN OR A WOMAN in their faces as if it was the most important thing in the world.

Thanks all. No idea why one person thinks I want attention?!
Off for my MRI in just a mo.
Anyway, in a strange coincidence I was in a shop this morning and had my first ever experience of coming face to face with a very obvious man dressed as a woman (plus fake boobs) who served me at the till. His colleague referred to him as a “lady” when sending me over to his counter.
Obviously I was polite but inwardly I seethed at being made to be part of his fetish/ delusion/ whatever without my consent.
He was the only person working on returns and I presume I could not have asked to be served by anybody else and would not have done so anyway as I would not want to cause him any distress.
Won’t be shopping there again though.

There's a TiM at a shop in my city centre - in a shop I occasionally use. He is tall, wears something my grandmother might have worn in 1949 and has long, dangly earings (not suitable for work, really). He was there last Christmas, so at least a year now. I was so cross I forgot to ask the price of the carrier I bought for my shopping and paid £2 for a Grynch bag!
There is also a TiM at my church. The Rector chats happily to him, whilst he towers over her, talking away in a deep male voice. The church is totally captured.

I always do this on paper forms, but it's harder on online ones. But I usually find there is a free text box somewhere, even if it's at the end and I will always write it there. I don't care if some reading it rolls their eyes.

I work for the ambulance service and once attended a very obvious bloke person who identified as female having chest pain. He was clearly delighted to expose his 'titties' (said no biological woman ever) to me. I felt so violated but my Trust clearly don't care about us staff, so long as we don't offend a patient. Hands down my worst shift ever 🤮.

candycane222 · 23/01/2025 14:03

I am guessing "identifying as a female having chest pain" was what was happening here. 🤨

I am just not following here... were you shocked to see naked man?
Like if did not "identify as a woman", would you be equaly shocked by mans bare chest?

Or it was some sort of a mixup of chest hair, mans face and fake tits?
In which case I would never dream to be sexually arroused by it but do not see an issue from medical perspective.
You are quite happy in your life if you work for ambulance and this is the worst you have ever seen lol

Is this the most disingenuous post of the day?

Is this the most disingenuous post of the day?

An attempt, certainly. But although the scope is ambitious, the execution is painfully obvious.

So far...

I once had to fill in a form which asked for my dog’s ‘assigned gender at birth’. I pointed out that he has never questioned his gender identity despite having had every reason to do so when he was castrated.

I had a similar experience with an animal shelter once when I was adopting a cat. I spoke with a man on the phone, but didn't get his name. When I went in to the office in person and tried to explain to the woman at the desk that I had already spoken to a man on the phone, she insisted I was mistaken because there were no men working there. We went back and forth for several minutes. Then an obvious male wearing a tacky Farah Fawcett style wig and a mini skirt walked in and greeted me in a baritone voice. 🤦‍♀️

Marshbird · 25/01/2025 14:47

I now just write male whenever gender box comes up …it’s bloody obvious form my name and shape and appearance I’m not male gender presenting, and clearly my sex is female. When they have asked, and not just ignored, I have said but you didn’t ask my sex. If they were to then ask if I want to be called he, I’d do a think and say, erm not today, I think I’ll be she today. They haven’t asked thst becuase they’ve obviously stopped at the sex bit as thst is, as we know, the only thing that is relavent,

whole thing is a joke, so I’ll trest it with the lack of seriousness and contempt it should be held in. I think we have to make the whole thing so muddled it doesn’t provide the info they’re after and finely the diversity twats at the top get the message it is NOT helping the staff or the patient

In health care, if a trans person wants to be referred to by gender terms contrary to their sex, they can ask the perosnal they’re dealing with politely, if they would do that. Person can politely agree to do so. Job done.

If he was identifying as a woman, why on earth wouldn't he identify into actual female symptoms then? Also, this is actually totally outrageous. Just recently learned one reason for women's high fatality from heart attacks is that first aid courses only use male dummy patients, so many first respondents get flustered when confronted with bras and breasts and don't administer proper resuscitation technique.
