Another women's event set up in the absence of knowledge of existing events - this time Million Women's March

So this in NOT Million Women's Rise that has existed for nearly 2 decades.

Nor is it the other Women's March parodying the US anti Trump event.

This one says it is apolitical and focused on children's safety.

This march has been organised by mums, nannas, aunts, and women from all walks of life. The only focus is the children -because children today are our tomorrow, and their safety must be a national priority.

I haven't had time to read all posts, but some comments are that it is transphobic because trans women aren't included (not sure if this has been said anywhere) and also a right wing initiative as it refers to "rape gangs".

The planned date is 17 February in London and other cities.

Have no time to trawl through all posts to find out any details either way, but if anyone is interested the facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61571294891233

In the meantime Million Women Rise will this year actually be on 8 March https://www.facebook.com/groups/11516673477/user/100064880490137

It seems to call itself Million Women March for Children, but it does all look quite odd.

Million Women March for Children

Must admit I didn't notice that as part of the title.

Main initiator seems to be Queen Bob at https://x.com/KingBobIIV

It's a march by women for children, not just victims of the rape gangs, as you mention, but all children. It was also inspired by the awful case of Sara Sharif. If it's not your cup of tea, fine, but it has every right to exist. Much more discussion about it on the long FWR thread about the faux "Women's March" taken over by TRAs and their enablers.

Million Women Rise wasn't the first march to use "million women" either, so they don't have a copyright on the phrase.

So there is no "absence of knowledge of existing events".

Of course there is!

No sensible person starting a new campaign (unless hoping to piggy back or deliberately confuse) would start an event a couple of weeks ahead of a long standing event.

And its clear from the organisers X account that it wasn't deliberate but just another example of people existing in their own echo chamber on social media.

And it may well be focused on children but by the publicity in the public sphere eg X makes very little mention of children. ie the publicity has the title Million Women March, not Million Women March for Children

Just because you might sympathise with their approach (said to be informed by Reform) doesn't mean just saying because I like what it is about therefore its okay.

In fact if you think the cause is so good, you would want them to be a bit more strategic in their organising.

And I never said MWR had copyright, I am just pointed out the stupidity of organising an event mid way between the US inspired women's march and the establish UK MWR march with a name that sounds like it could be either of them.

Using that sort of "arguement" is just a way of deflecting from the issue.

By the way, the name Million Women Rise was not inspired or related to the entry you found on wikipedia about again a US event. Although of course Rise, was inspired by a famous American poet https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/46446/still-i-rise

Maya Angelou

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise. Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I'll rise. You may shoo...

In fact its a shame the publicity wasn't Million Women March for Children - I suspect it would have got more main stream coverage.

And interestingly this thread gets a higher position on internet searches so in a back handed way I am helping with their publicity!

It was a large event which predates it.

There's no "stupidity". It's a different march, by women, for children, in February. They don't want men there.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/01/2025 22:38

right wing initiative as it refers to "rape gangs".

You do know that they are "rape gangs", don't you? You don't have to be right wing to do some basic research. Try it.

Tens of thousands of teenage and younger girls at a conservative estimate were raped and brutalised by organised, systematic gangs of men for decades in most UK towns. This was then systematically brushed under the carpet by most people in authority. Whatever the reasons for that, whatever you want to argue, it happened, in this country, and it's horrific. Several young women and their family members were even murdered.

The women organising and going on these marches are ordinary, mostly working class women. I'm not sure why you feel qualified to sneer at them. Feel free to go and march with sex offenders like Sarah Jane Baker at the "Women's" March.

I have never heard of million women march or the million women march for children, so not that surprising they haven’t heard of each otherZ

Marching for any topic makes no difference to policy makers anyway, but if people fancy a day out…

I'm inclined to agree with you but I think the feeling of solidarity can be valuable for people.
