A great piece with Dame Laura Kenny about the lack of research into female hormonal health and athletes.

However this also impacts women more widely, such as those who may have ED and those who are simply training for fitness goals.

I've been reading and listening to a lot of what Dr Stacy Sims says about this, which is the same; not eating enough and not eating enough carbs when training can impact hormone health.

Sims also transfers this to older women and athletes, protecting hormones as they transition into perimenopause. (She says if you're fulfilling the 150 mins a week guidelines you're essentially an athlete from a body health pov.)

Kenny has edited the today programme, and an important piece on children's pe and movement. Sims has recently been posting about how there are more barriers for girls accessing sports.

I'm certainly aware that as girls in my Son's age group have moved into y5, 6 and 7 aren't doing anywhere near the same level of activity many if the boys are, even if just cycling around the local area. Park run does seem to be an important set up for them, but of course that is now affected by gender ideology.

I really hope that we are seeing a big sea change in research in this area for all women and girls.

And what a lovely surprise to find that Dr Emma O'Donnell (mentioned in the piece and being interviewed on radio 4 right now) has RT Dr Emma Hilton 😍

Tammy Grey Thompson now discussing "there's not enough research into women's health in sport"

"Men and women's bodies are biologically different."

And towards the end of the r4 programme, a piece about women's leadership in sport not being taken seriously enough.

If we are talking testosterone on women in sports, there is research and statistics. All those poor East German women dying young with buggered hearts.

”I didn’t know “ is not an excuse in this situation.

Regarding normal women , there is some evidence https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8891628/ but I suspect the too hard basket is overflowing.

Insights in the Effect of Fluctuating Female Hormones on Injury Risk—Challenge and Chance - PMC

It's not about those poor women.

It was basically a call for more knowledge and research for female athletes to add to studies you linked to.

Amongst other things.

It was refreshing to hear on the bbc, several fully female centred discussions around sport, health and leadership.

Very much about RED-s (aka the female athlete triad iirc)
