Thanks for the round-up, OP. There's certainly a lot to keep an eye on.

I've also been wondering about the nurses. I think there are two separate cases, one in Fife and one in Darlington. I can't find any recent information about either of them though. Anyone know?

Thanks 👍

SidewaysOtter · 29/12/2024 23:25

Crikey, that’s quite a lot. But still, January is an excellent month for gardening.

anyolddinosaur · 30/12/2024 11:23

This is my list of gardens to consider planting - however this month mumsnet refused to let me post it until amended. The Manchester nurses have not asked for funding help so unless a newspaper updates I cant say anything about what's happening there. They did see Wes Streeting after they handed in a petition signed by 48,000 people to 10 Downing Street calling for the government to do whatever is necessary to ensure women have access to single-sex changing rooms and toilets. He said he wanted to speak to NHS leadership and employers about how to navigate the issue - I hope he has done so.

They saw Wes Streeting in October. All the hospital has to do is make the main changing area single sex and the transgender person can change in the additional small cubicle they created - but they haven't done that so the transwoman has a large changing room and the women queue for the single one. It is ridiculous and makes it very obvious that for the transwoman it is all about seeing his female colleagues changing.

There is also the Leeds student - but being supported by the FSU so no obvious garden. https://archive.ph/NKvVX

Thanks for this round up OP, I hope we see some victories in 2025.

The FWS case seems like the big one, but a few others could mean positive change more widely.

morningtoncrescent62 · 31/12/2024 20:48

I was thinking about the FWS case. If I've understood correctly, the Section 35 order that stopped the GRA being reformed in Scotland was made because of the interaction with the Equality Act, which is UK-wide legislation. If the Supreme Court rules that a GRC doesn't change a person's sex for the purposes of the single-sex exceptions in the Equality Act, ie FWS win, does that mean the rationale for the Section 35 order falls, and might that lead to the perverse effect of the GRA reform legislation (as passed at Holyrood two years ago) take effect? I may be completely wrong, and I hope I am, but it does worry me.

Leafstamp · 31/12/2024 20:51

Good question @morningtoncrescent62

I am not knowledgeable enough to opine.

Whatever the outcome I think there will be significant legal implications, and possibly even changes to the actual statute. But again, I will await the expert views when the outcome is declared.
