And lo, an angel came and said: it shall be completed by January the 3rd.

And a voice from on high said: Sex Matters has guidance for thee

And also: A glass of festive refreshment may help and perhaps a mince pie

https://sex-matters.org/take-action/respond-to-the-ehrc-consultation/

'The consultation is open for anyone to respond to, whether you respond as an individual or as an organisation.

  • Individuals can include people who give advice, lawyers, academics, campaigners and ordinary citizens wishing to challenge service providers.
  • Organisations can include service providers, associations and public bodies and organisations that give advice to others.
You should respond particularly if you are a service provider – a business, charity or public body that provides services to the public – or if you are an individual who uses services (everyone!) or an advisor. It will take you about 15 minutes to complete the survey. '

EHRC consults on statutory code of practice - Sex Matters

What needs improvement?  Be clear on the protected characteristics Give examples to help people think about harassment in relation to sex and gender reassignment Correct the section on sport, which is wrong in law  Stop promoting case-by-case assessmen...

ScrollingLeaves · 21/12/2024 22:26

Thank you.

LonginesPrime · 21/12/2024 22:33

Thank you!

Finally, a consultation where it's actually relevant to say what I think about Parkrun's gender policy (among other things..).

It's the perfect Christmas present!

Important to take note which you will find on the link to the actual consultation is that it closes on 3 January 2025.

About this Code of Practice

This code covers discrimination, harassment and victimisation in services and public functions, as set out in Part 3 of the Act, and discrimination by associations, as set out in Part 7 of the Act. It includes steps that should be taken to ensure those providing services, public functions and associations do not discriminate against people. It explains how the Equality Act 2010 works in relation to these activities and applies the legal concepts in the Act to everyday situations.

About the consultation

We have updated the code to reflect significant developments in legislation and case law since it was first published in 2011. We are running this consultation to gather feedback on the updated code.

We want to understand:

  • whether our interpretation of the law is clearly articulated in the circumstances we have set out
  • whether we have captured all new law and its associated impact
  • how we can make the code as accessible and easy to understand as possible

You can use our online survey to give your feedback. The survey will be open from 2 October 2024 to 5pm on 3 January 2025.

Thanks for the link Arabella.

Is the short timeframe in which to complete this consultation normal? If so, it’s not very sensible to be releasing it over Xmas is it? I mean, people (especially women) are very busy over Xmas 🤔🤔

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/12/2024 14:10

Yes, a bit suss really!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/12/2024 14:12

Actually it looks like it started on 2 October, I did think the date was a bit strange.

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2024 15:23

Yes, i didn't see it anywhere until yesterday though! And I get updates from the EHRC ...

I have news feeds which usually catch updates from EHRC and didn't see this.

But then not sure i would have understood the title. Hmm

YellowRoom · 22/12/2024 20:14

Thank you. I do love a consultation

YellowRoom · 22/12/2024 20:29

Oh, i don't love this consultation. Why is it so hard to complete. Will need to do some cross-referencing.

ArabellaScott · 23/12/2024 21:33

Ho ho ho!

Santa is here to remind girls and wims to fill out the consultation.

OP posts:
JanesLittleGirl · 23/12/2024 21:44

OK. This wasn't the most straightforward consultation I have ever completed and it took about 2 hours to get through (had to keep going back) but I got to the end and I feel that I got my message across.

ArabellaScott · 23/12/2024 21:58

A nice glass of port for you, Jane!

A nice glass of port for you, Jane!

Thank you very much. I do enjoy the occasional port .

YellowRoom · 24/12/2024 09:59

ArabellaScott and JanesLittleGirl - I'd abandoned the survey but returned to it this morning to complete. Thank you for your inspiration.
The examples the EHRC provide are infuriating - sort of a mixture between ignoring key problems and making the current situation worse.

ArabellaScott · 24/12/2024 10:06

Well done, Yellow! Bit early for port, would you like a wee peach bellini?

OP posts:
YellowRoom · 24/12/2024 10:20

Would I! Oh yes.

heathspeedwell · 24/12/2024 11:56

Thanks for the reminder.

Fordian · 24/12/2024 12:07

Bumpity bump.

Xiaoxiong · 24/12/2024 12:16

I shall complete it from the sofa wrapped in the dressing gown of doom and sitting on the icepack of sadness, fired up with fury by that most female of problems: piles which developed in pregnancy over a decade ago thanks to my massive babies but which rear (ho ho) their ugly head at inopportune times.

I saw a tweet that said trans women go through the same problems that women do plus transphobia and I just wanted to shriek "so where are your fucking pregnancy piles!"

My righteous anger will be poured into this consultation instead to distract me from the pain.
