... and is getting huge backlash on Instagram about it. 🙄 How refreshing though to see a woman-only race actually put out a statement like this though.

Unfortunately I'm already running another ultramarathon a couple of weeks before this, but I'm definitely going to volunteer to marshall if I can: www.sheracestrailseries.com/news/transgender-women-and-the-sheraces-trail-series?fbclid=PAY2xjawHSmBlleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABpqSLI3UDiMQ-X-TQpZrrthESOIS47KZwrwHxp9U9765Nko4aq99TYw_zhg_aem__teyn-M34TeQy5zd1RtNEA

I mean, you also have people complaining that sport is sex segregated at all, and someone complaining that you are using prosecco not beer! 😁

Peregrina · 21/12/2024 11:43

I just get so fed up with trans women whinging. It's a choice they have made. There are a lot more people who have a lot more to put up with in life, e.g. people with disabilities, which they just have to get on with as best they can.

Rosbeet · 21/12/2024 11:47

You just know this is going to be ruined by protesting TRAs :(

That's a really good statement. Playing trans activists at their own game by using language they can't pretend to misunderstand, but remaining very clear about their decision and why they have taken it.

BunfightBetty · 21/12/2024 11:59

Agreed. I think it’s cleverly worded, given the place we’re at currently. Good for them.

I've put a few comments on and liked various positive comments. I hope you don't become a focus for any men trying to sign up or protest. Hopefully not. Thanks for taking this position. It is much appreciated.

MsGrumpytrousers · 21/12/2024 12:15

I'm hearing that what they'd really like is for people to speak up on behalf of the Muslim community - ideally those who are part of it. Extra voices will really help them.

If you can help, it's @she.races on Instagram.

arethereanyleftatall · 21/12/2024 12:26

Thank you for the heads up. Just been on Instagram to add my support. Handmaidens are of course out in force there to pretend that there are many people who think that males belong in female spaces. There isn't.

I don’t feel qualified to comment on the insta post (15K trail is my limit) but have given your posts a like. I’m pretty sure it’s a small, loud minority who are making a fuss. I wonder how many of those commenting negatively are even runners?

WomaninBoots · 21/12/2024 16:09

Thank you sheRACES and Ourea Events for not only providing these races but for also being clear (within the confines of clarity allowed while attempting to use gender woo language) that they are unequivocally FEMALE only. As a regular ultra runner and potential customer, my confidence in both brands is massively boosted by this stance. I sincerely hope you continue to prioritise fairness, safety and inclusively for females in all your races in the face of the inevitable push-back and I hope these female only trails are a success.

I'd love to do one in the future.

Hey thanks for what you're doing.

Please don't be too disheartened by Instagram. Remember a lot of women are too precariously employed to risk speaking up for women's rights in their own names. So they're silent on the non-anonymous social media platforms BUT will vote with their wallet and feet when when it comes to products, businesses, services, events etc.

And remember too that people who didn't know or who were undecided will also be silently reading your impeccably reasonable statement and wondering why so many are there trying to shout you down.

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/12/2024 16:42

Great to see this.

I'm a bit confused why they are excluding trans identifying women though.

Cerialkiller · 21/12/2024 16:48

What would happen if a man with grc and a birth certificate with f on it tried to sign up? Does anyone know what the entry requirements are?

I think the statement is great and the most important thing is making this stand as only a genetic test will rule out every male individual.

I can answer this.

It's because they're males you see, and therefore have absolutely no place being in female sports.

I'm guessing the PP means women who identify as male rather than men who identify as female.

arethereanyleftatall · 21/12/2024 17:08

Maybe @JurassicPark4Eva

Who knows anymore! Now that the words woman and man mean absolutely nothing.

If a woman has been taking Testosterone it would probably be unfair to allow her to race. But yes, if not on T then I imagine it'd be fine .

BigFrau · 21/12/2024 17:17

Lack of clarity is a feature not a bug in this ideology!

grafittiartist · 21/12/2024 17:17

Thank you for making this clear statement. And the events look really great! Definitely on my list of ones to do.
Thank you!

arethereanyleftatall · 21/12/2024 17:24

If only it wasn't so blooming far, millions of women would do it in support of such a cause. Any chance of organising one to the bus stop with cakes en route? @Run2468

Signalbox · 21/12/2024 17:28

Trouble is with using ideological language is that the likes of Caster Semenya and Imane Khalif are considered to be "cisgendered" females because they were assigned female at birth and, for the purpose of sport at least, still ID as female.

AuntieStella · 21/12/2024 17:28

SuzieNine · 20/12/2024 21:34

Weird that they are getting hassle for it, they are just applying UKA rules - why are they being singled out over all the other races that apply UKA rules?

Because most ultras aren't track, nor do they use transponders if road/trail, so it can't be an event under rules.

Ultra trails are, of course, one of the few events where women often beat men. Look at Nicky Spinks and Yasmin Paris.

Sure but why are these people not picketing Diamond League, or local cross country races, or marathons, or any number of other race series that apply UKA regs? It seems like an organised pile-on of one specific race series.

I’m involved in a sport that rigorously applies sex categories (they finally did the right thing after years of trying all the alternatives) and we have never had a peep out of TRAs, let alone had actual races protested.

I just wonder how and why they pick their targets?

probably because it’s called SHE races.
