Justice!

He's probably counting on the same thinking that led him to act the way he did to be percolating the twelve(?) members of the jury. His peers. He might not be wrong. Look how easy it was for Pelicot to find men to rape his wife.

JellySaurus · 04/10/2025 11:37

He doesn’t accept being told that he cannot help himself to whatever or whoever he wants. He doesn’t accept that husbands cannot just dispose of their wives however they want. He doesn’t accept that women have human rights. That’s too heavy a burden for him to carry.

BettyFilous · 04/10/2025 16:00

It’s hard to believe Giselle is being put through the wringer again. I hope they throw the book at the guy and increase his sentence for his troubles.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 04/10/2025 16:03

So sad, as well, that she and her children haven’t been able to comfort each other.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 04/10/2025 16:04

If being labelled a rapist is “too heavy a burden” it might have been better not to commit rape, no?

What an arsehole

myavocadoisgrowing · 04/10/2025 16:06

Brilliant. She really deserves a bravery medal.

and the guys (particularly her husband) need castrating. And not the chemical kind.

ArabellaSaurus · 04/10/2025 22:07

She was awarded the Legion D'honneure, which I've probably misspelled. France's highest honour.

ArabellaSaurus · 06/10/2025 09:33

He'll be tried by jury rather than a panel of judges. Three days in court.

Does anyone know if French law provides for the appeal court to increase a sentence? Because that would be a brilliant outcome.

unsync · 06/10/2025 10:02

@FetchezLaVache It would seem so as this says that heavier sentencing is what made the others drop their appeals. 'Les 16 autres accusés ont renoncé au fil des mois, probablement dissuadés par le risque d’une peine plus lourde que celle obtenue lors du jugement en première instance.'

This here 'Condamné en première instance à neuf ans de prison, il encourt à nouveau vingt ans de réclusion.' says he's running the risk of 20 years of imprisonment by appealing. I do hope that's true.

moto748e · 06/10/2025 11:30

That is so sad that it's torn her family apart too. To cap it all.

Well let’s hope the scumbag gets vingt ans then.

I’ll vote for vingt ans.

I hope the jury take a dim view of this and throw away the relevant key. Otherwise there will be another 50 appeals.

They may have already gone past the time they'd be able to appeal? Hope so.

Lalgarh · 06/10/2025 13:12

Are there pictures of these men? Should there not be bloody warning signs round town where they were

DisappearingGirl · 09/10/2025 22:56

Good. Serves him right. Snivelling man.

ArabellaSaurus · 10/10/2025 07:19

Only a year? Pity.

ArabellaSaurus · 10/10/2025 07:22

'Although Dogan was held in pre-trial detention ahead of last year's trial, he has not spent time in jail since'

WeeWigglet · 10/10/2025 12:11

It takes some epic levels of denial when there's physical video evidence of you doing a terrible, terrible thing, that you admit to doing AND THEN claim to be a victim.

I hope it gave Gisele some sense of justice that he got an extra year.

I hope his wife breathed a sigh of relief and does a runner while he's banged up.

friedaddedchilli · 10/10/2025 13:54

There was an excellent interview with philosopher Manon Garcia on Woman’s Hour on Wednesday. Really thoughtful about the problem of male sexuality. Nuala had to inject a NAMALT moment though.

ETA based on Garcia’s witnessing of the Pelicot rapists’ trials.

Rapist Husamettin Dogan has sentence increased by 1 year after appeal thrown out

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq65e2jdd3lo

Good. An extra year may not sound like much but the symbolism is clear.
