“General Leadership: It is strictly prohibited to interfere in women’s clothing or impose any demands related to their attire or appearance, including requests for modesty.

We affirm that personal freedom is guaranteed for everyone, and that respecting individuals’ rights is the foundation of building a civilized nation.”

This seems like a positive statement, but obviously early days.

And even if they as a group have watered down their former Islamic fundamentalism, there is nothing to say that in the current vaccum a more fundamentalist group wont take hold.

And for anyone who didn't see the video that showed a young boy among the women prisoners freed by rebel groups, thought to have been born and only known prison as his "home". https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/syria-assad-regime-toddler-freed-underground-prisons-b1198834.html

Didn’t the Taliban say this when they took over in Afghanistan? Unless women have power such gestures will not be kept to.

This. Actions speak louder than words, so we'll see.

I feel very powerless to help women in both Syria and Afghanistan.I feel the most important thing to do is keep fighting for our rights here so we can show a culture where women and girls have equal rights is possible. And speaking up for them when we have freer speech and they don't.

IwantToRetire · 12/12/2024 17:50

And speaking up for them when we have freer speech and they don't.

And putting pressure on our Governments not to sell out women because they want to sell arms, or buy oil.

A leopard doesn't change its spots. Taliban will be Taliban and Isis will be Isis.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 12/12/2024 18:26

I seem to recall the Taliban saying they'd let women and girls study presumably because they wanted to extort more money from gullible Western Governments. This lot are lying in exactly the same way. Donald Trump says walk away and don't give them another cent. I agree.

This is the type of external influence that stops countries from being able to decided their own future:

What is particularly worrying is that the Turkish state and the groups it supports, such as the Syrian National Army (SNA) and IS gangs, have intensified their terrorist attacks and assaults on DAANES following the fall of the regime. In Tel Rifat, Shahba, Manbij and Kobani, thousands of people were forcibly displaced and women, children and elderly people died of hunger, disease and cold. Mass killings took place in Kobani and Ayn Issa, people were captured and tortured, and hundreds have been disappeared. Turkey is using the current situation to enforce its genocidal policy against the Kurdish population in Rojava and to continue the annexation of northern Syria that began in Afrin, Serekaniye and Gire Spi. It wants to eliminate the achievements of the Democratic Autonomous Administration – a project, that is currently the greatest hope for a solution and peace for a region that has been marked for decades by a war of hegemonic forces for power and resources and terrorized by Islamist gangs.

What does the fall of Assad mean for Rojava and the Women's Revolution? — FiLiA

In North-East Syria, also known as ‘Rojava’ (the Kurdish name for Western Kurdistan), the Syrian state largely withdrew after the people's uprising in 2012. The majority Kurdish population in the region took the initiative and began to establish self-a...

The leader is off to a good start by declaring that he'll reclaim Jerusalem and Mecca to form a new Islamic Caliphate.

I hope you are being sarcastic. Its hard to tell these days.

I have no hope that a violent Islamist group taking control of Syria will be anything other than a disaster for the people of Syria and the wider Middle East.

IwantToRetire · 15/12/2024 20:13

a violent Islamist group taking control of Syria

Which group is that?

OP posts:
Circumferences · 15/12/2024 21:43

Israel have negotiated a "deal" to enable these people to be in control in exchange for a large section of Syria, so they can complete their goal of forming the Eretz Yisrael Hashlema, greater Israel which includes Palestine, the whole of the west bank, large parts of Syria and more.

In exchange - huge numbers of Syrians will be killed/displaced, so that yet another group of Islamist fundamentals created by America can take control.

We WILL see Syrian women forced to wear full cover, we will see the same as we see in Afghanistan. Women being killed for wanting an education. So that Israel can have what they want.

Israel/America won't stop here, now they are confident they can get away with it as they have done with the endless slaughter of Palestinians. They are moving onto Syria now, then the West bank then next.

It's a disaster for women in the middle east.

And you know what it's a disaster for us here in the UK because all of these war torn refugees are coming here, full of anger and hurt, wondering how we have let it happen to them.

EdithStourton · 15/12/2024 22:10

Ah, right.
The Jews are to blame again.
Got it.

duc748 · 15/12/2024 22:48

More wars means more refugees; there's no dispute about that.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 16/12/2024 09:12

Yes I was being sarcastic. I'd also like to thank our Government for sending £50 million to Al Qaeda /sarc\

Amazing how you manage to blame Jews for for Islamic fundamentalism.

It appears that to people with this mindset that there is nothing that can happen in the ME that can't be blamed on Israeli Jews. Every other people in every other country in the ME gets a free pass on their behaviour as the Jews can be blamed for it instead.

My thoughts precisely.
I was just too cross to even attempt to articulate them.

I have Jewish friends whose families fled from Islamic countries, where their families had lived for generations, with little more than the clothes they stood up in, leaving property and businesses behind. I suppose that's also all part of the long-laid and deeply cunning Jewish plot.

Shortshriftandlethal · 16/12/2024 12:41

The Israel obsessives have to find a way of turning everyone's attention back to Israel. The ironic thing is when they do this, they simply strengthen Israel and the desire of many jewish people to go there. See Ireland as a current case in hand.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 16/12/2024 14:42

The Druze are saying right now they don't want to live under Sharia Law and want Israel to take them in.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 16/12/2024 14:44

These same people are also very cross that Israel has taken out the chemical weapons stocks that Assad used to gas his own people.

EdithStourton · 16/12/2024 15:49

Link to an article in the Jewish Chronicle. It includes a long clip of a Druze man speaking with/for his community. Israel is seen as the lesser of two evils.
(No doubt also part of the evil plot by the dastardly Jews. #sarcasm)

Jihadis are created by their murderous religion not by jews, infidels nor the Great Satan, America.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 17/12/2024 11:26

Israel has dismantled Hamas and Hezbollah which effectively led to the collapse of the Assad regime and weakened Iran. Maybe the Ayatollahs are next. I'm not sure why leftist people are lamenting this.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 17/12/2024 11:28

The Trump threat to Hamas "we'd better have those hostages back by January 20th" appears to be working.

Because everything Israel does is bad obviously, because Israel is bad obviously. And people who think like this think that nothing, nothing, nothing good can ever come from people they label an oppressor and nothing, nothing, nothing bad can ever be done by someone they label a victim. And you have to stick to that no matter how hard it becomes to maintain that position, and no matter how many facts come along to undermine it, because if you lose that simplistic narrative you have lost everything and may have to start thinking for yourself, which won't go down well in the progressive leftist circles you move in. So best not to go there.

duc748 · 17/12/2024 11:53

Not sure who you are arguing with there, @workingcream .

YourAmplePlumPoster · 17/12/2024 11:55

💯 agree. They also seem to think it's bad that Israel has demolished chemical weapons that might be used by the newer, kinder jihadists who've just taken over. There was a ceasefire while Assad was in power so they'll either have to negotiate a new one or accept IDF incursions.

Not sure why you think I was arguing with anyone.

Think I've worked it out. I was using ' you', to mean ' one'. But no-one says 'one' anymore. But they should. Because it avoids confusion as to what is meant by 'you'.
