The Greens in Victoria (Australia)

It seems that there is a major rift between the environmentalists and the transactivists in the Victorian Greens:

(Interesting, but not altogether surprising!)

'The split is between the old guard – who mostly want to focus on environmental reforms and have the freedom to debate controversial policy issues – and a newer guard largely concerned with the rights and safety of transgender and other gender-diverse Victorians.'

Gosh, that sounds familiar.

"The Greens confidential process for dealing with alleged misconduct ensures all parties – including the accused – are sworn to secrecy even if the defendant is cleared."
Jeez they're like the friggin Gestapo.
And I say that as a lifelong Greens voter who used to volunteer to hand out how-to-vote info at polling stations for the Victorian Greens.
It makes me feel sick.

Also that article feels like a toe in the water for The Age.
Here's hoping many tongues will be loosened in the weeks ahead, and the lead-up to our Federal election.

Similar phenomena exist in nature:

Aye.

On a more serious note, it's great to see this kind of issue coming to the fore so publicly. Hopefully it won't be written off as dinosaurs hoarding rights etc. This article suggests it's currently a generational split but I would imagine that young Australians are starting to question what's happening in the same way as we're seeing in the UK.

Perhaps that will take time to filter through in politics in general to left-leaning parties. Prior to the election here, Rosie Duffield (and the Wes Streeting) were getting tons of angry tweets from younger party members. Logically political parties will attract young people who want to drive change (rather than the average teen chatting to friends) so will always be skewed towards activism.

Having said all that, maybe the most public split in the UK is in the Green Party of England and Wales.

Rather it's the impact of alignment with trans activism that has had the bigger political impact in Scotland e.g.. Nicola Sturgeon, followed by Humza Yusaf and his spat with the Greens.

The confidentiality clause makes sense in that we rarely hear of any issues. However, it also sounds disproportionate if someone cannot outsource a graphic to be produced.

That really is over the top.
