Any backdoor to children is a good one

Look what snuck into my 5 year old's school newsletter.
Looks to be a section to discuss with the young ones.
Adult topics should not be anywhere near children.

And since when are police officers people children know well?
Looks like someone hasn't got the memo on not linking sacred castes to trusted adults. Still peddling the story of trusted police, doctors and priests.

I'm not sure how to push back on it but push back I must. Pointers welcome.

I do not understand? Do you mean children in general should trust nobody, outside their family?

What if they are at risk of harm from a family member?

Tatoumtish · 15/11/2024 18:46

You don't understand or you don't want to understand?

I'm sure the leaflet said something about adults children know well. I'm sure they know more than 1 adult if they go to school? Do any sports or hobbies or anything outside the house?

Bumping for you.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 15/11/2024 18:50

There is no mention of having to trust Police.
Schools teach safety aspects of body boundaries, keeping secrets, adults who hurt etc… what’s your point?

Bbq1 · 15/11/2024 18:57

Let's be honest, every other adult isn't a paedophile. As a rule, in a lot of normal families police officers, doctors and grandparents are generally trusted adults. I guess if you want you child to grow up trusting nobody that's up to you, Op but it's unnecessary to approach the school. As it is today, some children t aren't allowed to even walk a few steps unaccompanied until the age of 10 it would seem as they are helicoptered over. Cue immature, dependent and wary teenagers who have never had to think for themselves.

Parents teachers doctors nurses cops people with rainbow flags . . . . .

DeanElderberry · 15/11/2024 18:59

One of these things is not like the others

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 15/11/2024 19:02

Took me a bit to see it. Yikes!

teeteringontheborderline · 15/11/2024 19:02

I took that to mean that if children have worries about gender or sexuality they should go to a trusted adult with them (rather than, for instance, the internet).

Those same "trusted adults" are the ones posting false information online. Any of the those activists are very likely to have a very prominent online presence.

SallyForf · 15/11/2024 19:07

Ah, that's not super, is it [understatement]

Datun · 15/11/2024 19:13

Sacred caste indeed.

Bannedontherun · 15/11/2024 19:15

Oh the guy with the rainbow flag, and a phone.

Not sure what an average child would make of that.

Unless of course you have guys who want to harm children, wandering around with rainbow flags, in school or wandering down the street.

Having said that i would ask the school to explain this as i don’t see how one can elevate a person with a rainbow flag as someone to always trust, very odd

SallyForf · 15/11/2024 20:50

Yes exactly, how CAN one elevate a person with a rainbow flag as someone to always trust. It IS odd criteria to apply, I can see doctor, police officer, teacher, grandparents, childminder/childcare worker as being candidates but rainbow flag bearer, mmm not so sure.

TitchyBiteroo · 15/11/2024 21:11

It’s just a selection of diverse adults who may represent the trusted adults in various children’s lives - you’re over thinking it.

Brown woman with headscarf appears twice - do you suspect sinister intent there as well?

DeanElderberry · 15/11/2024 21:15

Brown little girl with headscarf looking at examples of people she should trust. All the others have an obvious connection with the children or with a known profession. Flag person doesn't.

You could start with the police

Before coming to rainbow dude.

The graphic is most likely from one of those free resource site that teachers use. I was working in a school when a different resource site got shut down because it was run by a paedophile.

The bloody front door is left open these days.

Tatoumtish · 15/11/2024 22:22

I've got to lol at the obtuse lone brown women comments. I don't care how old that makes me sound.

Yes the old people could be random shop assistants and the guy at the door is a random traffic warden - and the lone brown woman is not supposed to be quota brown mum.

I understand being wary of discrimination but closing eyes to common sense has led us to exactly where we are now.

Anyway, any tips on approaching school gently about the lone randoms who seem to have no connections to kids apart from one of authority and mandated respect? I.e. "the trust me because you've been told to" ones?
I fear I'll be too abrupt and this needs walking on egg shells. I might draft something over the weekend.

Bannedontherun · 15/11/2024 22:41

Okay. You do not say how old the children are that this is targeting.

but at a guess it is pre teen given the cartoons.

Personally i would just ignore it as nonsense. Because i do not think that the symbols are strong enough or widely accepted symbols of safety, that a child (or adult as demonstrated here) would understand.

Having said that i think i would simply ask about the guy with the flag.

see what they say as to what it means and what is its intention. If as we think it is an invite for a child who might believe they are trans, then i would point them to the CASS review. And there duties to consult with parents.

I would further suggest this is the poorest safeguarding poster i have ever seen. A sad fearful child would not relate to this.
