The government is seeking your views on how we can make a health service fit for the future.

Our NHS is broken, but not beaten. Together we can fix it.

The NHS has been there for us for over 76 years. But to make sure the NHS is here for the next 76 years, doing all it can to support the health of everyone, we need your help.

We want to have the biggest ever conversation about the future of the NHS.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a lot or a little to say. Your views, experiences and ideas will shape a new 10 Year Health Plan for England.

This is open to everyone. If you are a member of the public or someone who works in health and care in England, 'Start Here', to tell us how the NHS needs to change.

If you are contributing as a representative of an organisation, complete the organisation questionnaire. This is an early opportunity to share your insights as we begin an extensive programme of engagement to develop the 10 Year Health Plan.

If you register your email address, we will stay in touch to seek your views as the 10 Year Health Plan develops.

For those interested these are the option offered in the survey.

What is your sex?
(optional)
The answer you give can be different from what is on your birth certificate. If you’re not sure how to answer, use the sex registered on your official documents, such as passport or driving licence, or whichever answer best describes your sex. The next question gives the option to tell us if your gender is different from your sex registered at birth.
Male
Female
Prefer not to say

Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?
(optional)
Yes
No
Prefer not to say
If no, please enter gender identity

So they record sex and gender (good!) but you get to choose your sex - so what the fuck does that even mean?!

Having wasted hours (well minutes going through it) they are in fact allowing not to have to say either. Cant remember if that is the same with ethnic identity and age. Which for instance gives them the option to say we will ignore anything said by the over 50s as by the time we make any changes will be dead so we can discount them.

It was only when I got to the end and was so relieved to have findished that I realised I hadn't used the option "Other" in all questions to make the point about health being about biology, not identity.

So public apology for getting totally side tracked by the very strange and un-useful questions not to take the opportunity to make this point.

The shame. Blush

If sex can mean anything, whats the point in collecting it?

They are wasting public money analysing questions where the data is so corrupted it means nothing. They might as well have asked for people to state the animal they most identity with.

Is it just a flawed recollection on my part, or are these options even worse than the problematic census versions?

I'd like to believe that it's not possible that another government-funded exercise is starting off with no consideration as to how many people will understand these sex | gender questions.

I have a feeling the wording is based on the (flawed) census questions

BUT does allow you not to answer which the census didn't in asking about sex (if done on line).

Any use is saying 'No' to the question about whether gender is same a birth sex. Then in the 'state your genre's make it clear you have no gender. You are gender critical. Or not worth bothering?

illinivich · 21/10/2024 22:40

I have a feeling its been decided that the word 'transgender ' was the only issue with the census. So are using sex and gender instead.

I have to give it to them - they arent giving up.

IwantToRetire · 22/10/2024 01:09

Partly because I wasted the opportunity if anyone can be bothered to log in, you dont have to answer the question on sex or gender, but throughout every set of questions there is the option other.

The set of questions is quite limited, but in each (I think) says what works, what doesn't, so ample opportunity to add a comment about NHS failing to protect biological women.

And if I didn't have such a form filling phobia, it is now obvious from the question about sex they aren't really interested, as the documents they refer to in "helping" you work out your sex, are in facts ones you can get changed.

Is anyone in touch with Sex Matters. Would be good if they wrote this up.
