Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The UK seems to have bought into identity politics in general much less than some other places.

I think the press is much better and larger in the UK than in some other countries. Canada for example only really has two national newspapers and not much in the way of good smaller ones either.

The House of Lords as mentioned above, but also the fact that the courts can't overrule legislators in a way that pushes new laws. And the common law tradition I think is far more robust than some of the constitution based systems.

Fundamentally I think the temperament of the UK is pretty conservative. It's not inclined to wipe everything out in a revolution and start over.

They may not agree with it, but I think the majority of men, and a lot of women, don't see it as that important.

I’m not sure if it’s not seeing it as important or more, whilst feeling uncomfortable with the scenario, not wanting to make a fuss or not feeling that they can make a fuss when wanting to appear liberal minded. End result is few females feel able to exert boundaries in light of a 6’, 14st TW in the workplace. Esp in light of institutional capture.

It’s a brilliant article but I don’t feel its optimism. There’s feminist pushback but institutional capture is still expanding. Slower than otherwise but still growing.

A lot of British feminisn is rooted in the trades unions which are - even now - much stronger than in eg the USA. Women in the unions are very pragmatism of necessity. I think American feminism takes more from psychoanalysis than from the class struggle.

** pragmatic ...

Agreed. I've just been reading the BBC thread, and Glinner's speech on them. Great example of your institutional capture. Sadly.
