NSW (Australia) parliament passes bill to strengthen LGBTQ+ rights

Is there a discussion on this already? I couldn't see it, please link if so.

According to the Guardian,

"The equality bill will give transgender people the ability to have their sex changed on their birth certificates without undergoing invasive surgery, bringing the state in line with others, and non-binary will become a gender option for birth certificates"

So does that mean men with penises will be able to change their sex to female? Is that what I'm reading?

I also don't understand the birth certificate stuff - is that really an option to select non binary for a newborn? Or is it for the parents?

I'm astonished that this can go through with apparent fanfare.

more proof (as if it were needed) that Aus is very close second only to Canada in the bonkers Olympics.

Australia is too far gone I think, it doesn't seem to have any respect or care for woman or animals. As a woman in Aus I don't feel great about things right now

LGBTQ+ bollocks. That does fuck all for LGB - quite the opposite. I hate that acronym so much.

Yep as soon as I saw the headline I knew it would be about the T and only the T.

Neither. I'm surrounded by woke liberal middle classes who are very much in the be kind camp.

Yes, that's my take, too. Nowt to do with LGB, just the T&Q.

Somebody on a different thread came up with
LGB✂TQ
which is clever....

Who decides that a baby is non-binary? And how will this be determined? I'm assuming that that's now a gender that can be assigned at birth?

MaybeSmaller · 18/10/2024 10:00

"non-binary will become a gender option for birth certificates"

I'm reading that as adults who "identify" as non-binary will be able to change their birth certificate to state that. Not that parents will be able to select their newborn's gender with "non-binary" as one of the options. I mean, it's already bonkers, but that would be a whole other level of bonkers.

I assume that the NB option for a birth certificate will be for those who want to change it later in life, rather than when registering a newborn!

MarieDeGournay · 18/10/2024 10:14

'Assigned Non-binary at Birth', if it wasn't a trendy label, would be the ideal situation: little newborn is either male or female, and is registered as such, but s/he is going to be allowed to grow up free from the constraints of gender stereotypes.

'Assigned a Human Being at Birth', who can wear what they damn well want and play with the toys they damn well want to play with and grow up to be what they damn well want, regardless of whether they are male or female. But knowing that they are male or female, because that's just biological fact.

I'm playing devil's advocate here, If NB is there as an option, someone will press to have it assigned at birth to their child. This is where pushing the boundaries will take us. So, who do you think ought to decide and how could it possibly be determined?

Just to be clear: I personally would prefer to stick with the quaint, old-fashioned binary options of male or female.

Parents are able to decide what to put on the birth certificate in Australia - options are Female (F), Male (M) and Non-binary (X).

Anyone in the state of Queensland can have their birth certificate falsified, to reflect their “gender” rather than their biological sex. Children under 10 need the permission of their parents, parents can change their children’s gender, and adults have no restrictions and do not need to fulfil any requirements other than stating their preferred gender. Oh, and they can change it again when they feel like it (although the big meanie government has said it can only be changed once every 12 months - they must be total bigots, huh?!?).

Australia is totally captured and it is frightening how few people acknowledge and understand reality.

Edited

It is already happening - Tasmania is leading the way with Non-binary as an option on birth certificates of newborns. Queensland takes it further with allowing documents including birth certificates, licenses, and passports to be changed whenever someone wants (but only once in any 12 month period).

This, along with the fact that anyone who objects to GI/complains about trans-identifying males in female spaces (or vice versa)/fails to affirm immediately/refuses gender affirming medications and treatments - EVEN IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS - can be prosecuted/referred to the Anti-discrimination commission.

As previously stated - Australia is fucked, and women are absolutely considered “less than…” (unless of course, they are trans/drag queen/non-binary/etc)…
