Great post on linked in re "people who menstruate" and using the reality "women". Lots of replies. If you are up to being GC publicly maybe show some support https://www.linkedin.com/posts/tessa-mcinnes-a9b48442today-i-commented-on-call-for-men-to-be-activity-7252455591548198912-8PeB?utmmsource=share&utmmedium=memberrios

Done, thanks OP.

men to be "allies" to "people who menstruate"

So men are 'men' but women are 'people who menstruate'?

Some pretty full-on anti-GC comments thereSad

Crouton19 · 17/10/2024 22:04

And women who don't menstruate are just... an unidentifiable collection of cells?

I particularly like her comments on 'ally' which tends to be used in one direction when it is meant to be reciprocal. Everyone wants declarations of allyship but offer nothing in return.

username3678 · 17/10/2024 22:11

Interesting that it was predominantly women who were calling her transphobic and men who were agreeing with her.

All by men in dresses if you look closer.

FarriersGirl · 18/10/2024 07:49

Some very wacky views in the comments not just men in dresses but one who believes the main reason women no longer menstruate is abortion😲

saltysandysea · 18/10/2024 08:27

to be fair women (gender) do not menstruate, it is females (sex) who have the biological bits and pieces to actually menstruate, give birth etc. a male person does not. A trans man is a female (sex) who wants to live male life as they perceive it. A trans woman is a male who wants to live as a 'woman' (usually just covers the dressing up in skirts & tights, hair make up etc).

It is why toilets are usually male\female as they are engineered to reflect the sex differences rather gender.

Agree the term allies needs to go.

Slightly off topic but just received a LinkedIn job alert to a role that fits my experience - not quite sure as a straight woman I’ve got even the slightest chance of meeting the criteria
And this is for a ‘female friendly’ dating app company

We strongly encourage people of colour, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and non-binary people, veterans, parents, and individuals with disabilities to apply. Bumble is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes everyone to our team. If you need reasonable adjustments at any point in the application or interview process, please let us know.

That's actually not "fair" exactly. That's incredibly biased.

Seeing as the word for "adult human female" already exists, which is "woman", and the word for "adult human female who identifies as a man" also exists, which is "transman", there's no need whatsoever to refer to either of these people as "people who menstruate ".

I mean it makes no sense anyway. Why choose that descriptor. Why not "people with ovaries, people with a vagina, people who gestate, people with a cervix, people who could have endometriosis".....
The dehumanising language list is endless, when the phrase "women and transmen " or even "females with all gender identities" will suffice.

I don't have a linkedin account but it does look like that comment has been hijacked by the tra.

MsFogi · 18/10/2024 10:32

She is bloody brilliant. For those unable to 'like' her comment you may want to 'follow' her to show support.

MsFogi · 18/10/2024 10:35

Her comment on the 'Men's Allyship Series' is excellent - scroll down her comment history here to yesterday https://www.linkedin.com/in/tessa-mcinnes-a9b48442/recent-activity/comments/ and worth a 'like' too. Brave woman sticking her head above the parapet given that she is employed by a company that will no doubt now come under pressure to sanction her.

Tessa McInnis is very interesting and her personal campaign goes back some way. She made a personal written submission to the Parliamentary committee on the GRA. If you are interested.
