Which women’s charity to donate to?

Looking for some advice here please.

i want to make a donation to a charity that looks after women in crisis, in abusive relationships or those who’ve suffered sexual assault or trauma.
I want to support a charity that maintains single sex provision for biological women and girls. I’m aware that men and boys also suffer abuse and assault but my focus at this point is on women and girls.

Trawling through websites and mission statements isn’t helpful in sorting this out.

I'd appreciate some help in sorting out which charities would fit the bill.
Thankyou.

JK Rowling started one in Edinburgh. It’s called Beira’s place.

JK has said that Beira's place doesn't need additional funding.

Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis Centre one of the very few rape crisis centres in Scotland that actually provide single sex services for women.

Wow. That’s even more impressive of her. Might be time for me to buy her latest book in support.

The domestic abuse charity nia is also firmly single-sex.

There are some women's aid shelters but I'm a bit loathe to name them in case it attracts abuse.

Rights of.women are great, Centre for Women's Justice. I put a thread up recently that had lots of organisations that had match dunding to double donations this week...

IwantToRetire · 13/10/2024 20:58

My response to threads like this which happen regularly is try and find out and make connections with local groups.

Many of these local groups are in far worse financial position than the in reality quite small number of groups FWR seems to be aware of!

And although if may be that your local women's aid group of rape crisis group has been Stonewalled, it is also true that they may not have been.

It also means if you are in touch with them, then should the local council say it is no longer cost efffective to provide women only services you can help them argue against this.

The cut to funding on the basis of cost effectiveness has been a far greater threat to women's projects than trans activism.

And has been going on for years.

You can find directories of women's aid project and rape crisis projects on the directories of the federated groups.

There are a number of charities which travel Africa repairing childbirth injuries.

My dad was a GP obstetrician and donated to these charities because he said that these injured women's lives were ruined until they were treated.

South Kolkata Hamari Muskan. Womens small NGO working with prostituted women in the red light areas. Have visited and supported as they are one of the very few abolitionist organisations trying to get women and their children out of the trade by providing training and employment alternatives. They particularly need money to cover a stipend during the transition period of leaving which is paid the the women for the work they do and towards travel costs etc. They get the children into school and college and employment. They are realistic but reasonably successful and very locally based. That is if you would like something further afield not captured by gender ideology unlike many others. A little goes a long way in India!

Trevi, and Gifted Women in Plymouth are both excellent small charities.

Rise is an amazing, feminist, women-centred charity supporting survivors of domestic abuse. It is desperately in need of funds.

Yes. I am going to donate to a fistula repair charity as 1) it is for women and 2) It makes such a difference to the quality of life of the whole family 3) I can't imagine anything worse than having to live with that.

This has been really helpful.
Thanks to all who have contributed and made suggestions. I’ll do a bit more reading up and then decide.
Thanks again.
