NHS survey nonsense

This is worse than the last survey I did for them.
Honestly they really need to be told off for this nonsense.

And luckily for them it allowed me to type something in the box as well as tick woman.

NHS survey nonsense

"Select all that apply" 😂😂😂
Comedy gold!

SirChenjins · 01/10/2024 13:14

Isn't there some Govt dept you can report this nonsense to? I seem to recall there was somewhere that was collating these inaccurate surveys.

I'd tick all and then use the 'tell us more' box to tell them they're talking bollocks (the kind that all males are born with and most continue to cart around even if they do wear a dress and lipstick).

WarriorN · 01/10/2024 15:05

I did a dfe one earlier, was pleased to see it was female, male, prefer not to say / other

Obvs could be better but other isn't that!

ElleWoods15 · 01/10/2024 16:30

Is it not pretty exhausting hunting around for something, anything to get your knickers in a twist about on a daily basis?! 😂

Scutterbug · 01/10/2024 16:32

I really don’t see the issue?

The issue is collecting inaccurate stats/information for surveys.

When the NHS doesn't know the difference between sex and gender I'd say that's worth some attention, don't you? Unless you don't know the difference either.

HaddyAbrams · 01/10/2024 16:38

I had a survey yesterday (not nhs) that asked
How do you identify?
Male/ female/other/prefer not to say

As I keep being told that male and female are the sex terms (man and woman are gender) you can't identify as any thing other than what you are.

Luckily it was a paper form so I could cross it out.

Just to be clear, I don't agree that man and woman are gender terms. But it's what I'm always told.

Myalternate · 01/10/2024 16:39

When someone claims that males miraculously become women just because they say they are, there’s little point in engaging with that poster.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/10/2024 16:44

They are legitimately told to or need to capture data around ''gender identity".

It's not something that awful. They are obliged to collect data on how many trans people might be accessing their service. Either to tailor their services or just report back to the government funding stream they use.

As long as you can put 'woman' and 'no gender identity' then that will be noted and relevant.

None of these questions are for no reason. I don't think its encouraging people to say they're having a different gender just by asking it.

You can just refuse the question.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 01/10/2024 16:52

But its meaningless as they have mixed up all the terms.

collecting info on what gender someone identifies as, with an option for 'none' (if birth sex is also collected) is fine because that's meaningful.

In this survey they are including things that literally aren't a gender, ie man and woman. It's difficult to see how those stats could be of any use.

"Is it not pretty exhausting hunting around for something, anything to get your knickers in a twist about on a daily basis?" Could equally apply to posters who like to hang out here just to pick holes in any conversations without contributing anything positive (and a very sexist way to belittle women's concerns).

If you think there are no problems with this survey, why not tell us why that is? Just saying 'I don't see a problem' is not an argument for why its not problematic, it's just illustrating that you don't understand the points that have been made.

I think it’s interesting. If the nhs know the make up of their service users they can target things accordingly. Ive just done a MH survey for our local nhs MH team and it asked the same question. Didn’t even occur to me that it was an issue.

How do you target healthcare based on gender identity? It's a nonsense. Healthcare needs to be based in reality and the fact that there are two sexes. Lots of medical issues affect the two sexes differently. By not recording accurate information the NHS is preventing the collection of accurate medical information. This could have significant effects on many things, including treatment protocols.

Only as exhausting as your input.

Is this the NHS staff survey? I have mine waiting to be done. Am tempted to do the paper version (if available) so I can write them a nice little note!

The issue is that I expect that there was no question on sex. Which means that from this info you can neither analyse the data by male / female or analyse the date by trans / not trans. It’s as useful as being asked what age do you feel instead of the age you are and then trying to generate any meaningful info.

@Forester1 yeah, I know what you mean. I guess it could say 'birth sex' then 'gender identity (if different)?
I'm glad I don't have to work on writing surveys anyore! Lol

Exactly this. This survey isn’t collecting data on how many trans people are using the health service because the question isn’t structured in that way and doesn’t appear to show sex as a comparator. As it stands it looks like someone has simply conflated sex and gender.

Popopopipipi · 01/10/2024 17:42

The I use another term option must bring forth some absolute beauties.

It's not like it's standard NHS data gathering uniform across the country either - there's a hodge podge of different terms and free text boxes on different forms in different trusts which all adds up to utter bollocks in the end.

My GP just asks for birth sex, and includes an 'apology' for doing so but explains it's for medical reasons.

ArtfulDawn · 01/10/2024 22:18

I saw the same nonsense recently on an NHS survey that was targeting women (or should I say “pregnant people”) and there was this exact question. FFS.

Nothingeverything · 02/10/2024 15:43

I wish they could just put:

Sex: male/female
Do you consider yourself to be transgender? Yes/no (Meaningless question in this context really...)
