David Carrick victims are crowdfunding

Sorry if there's already a thread I did look.

Justice and accountability for survivors of David Carrick should get you there.

Centre for Women's Justice are representing the women against the Met pro bono but they need funds for psych reports for the case and an interpreter for one of the women. The Met should be held to account.

@nothingcomestonothing. Only just had time to look at it properly. It’s horrifying.

Those poor women. I’m surprised there isn’t more support for this.

'In 2023, Met officer David Carrick pleaded guilty to 85 serious offences against women, including 48 rapes. The Met have now made a number of public statements recognising that Carrick should never have been a police officer and had used his position to abuse us.
It was through these public statements that we learned, for the first time, that the Met were aware of numerous allegations against Carrick. We learned that some of these incidents took place before being accepted as a police officer, and then during his probation period. Despite this, he was deemed fit and proper not only to become a police officer and remain one, but to hold a firearm and work in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command. This is the command of the police which guards parliament and Number 10.
No one had told us this before. We heard it on the news, like everyone else. We learned that Carrick could have been stopped, before he abused us or anyone else.

Learning that he could have been stopped, but that the police failed to act, was devastating. Having been focused on the horrific crimes of Carrick and having him prosecuted, we are now focused on the wrongdoing of the Met: this must not be allowed to happen again.
We do not know each other. But individually, over the course of a year, we approached Centre for Women’s Justice, a legal charity which brings cases against the police for failings in the investigation of rape and sexual assault. They have now joined our concerns and act for us in a civil claim against the Met. The claim will argue that our human rights have been breached, and that the police were negligent in their handling of Carrick’s employment in the face of multiple allegations of violence. A letter of claim has been sent, and we are awaiting a response.
As well as seeking justice, we want to use this case to get answers. So far, we only have partial answers, most of which we read about in the press.'

You can post a link to the page as it's just info, it's not the direct crowdfunder.

Good luck to all those women. Flowers

The IOPC have made a statement re disciplinary proceedings against some of those in the police force who didn't act to stop Carrick. This bit stood out to me:

While the Met did not initially identify any conduct matters in relation to the investigation of allegations against Carrick, recognising the level of public concern they asked us to review their assessments.
Our review identified a number of conduct matters and we then took the unusual step of using our ‘power of initiative’ to call in the conduct matters and launch our four investigations.

The Met is rotten to the core.

The women are still crowdfunding at the usual place for their civil case against the Met.

‘when he was a teenager’

I’ve heard that the gardening plot got a good round of bulbs put it recently and hopefully more can be added

how many women now would have been saved from abuse if he had been identified and locked up at the start of his offending?

this is why we need to believe women and girls and stop excusing abusive males

The women have paused their fundraising in order not to risk prejudicing another case against Carrick:

Update on Justice And Accountability For Survivors Of David Carrick

We write this message on behalf of the women fundraising for their case. They have been reading your comments, as well as seeing your pledges, and wish to express their sincere gratitude for your support.

As you may have seen in the media, David Carrick has this week been charged with eight sexual offences against two further women. Although this fundraising campaign is not related to those specific offences, criminal proceedings against Carrick are now active. There are strict rules regarding what can and cannot be discussed publicly when criminal proceedings are active, in order to avoid any risk of prejudicing the right of a suspect to a fair trial. In light of those rules, we do not believe that the women can continue to run or promote this campaign. They do not wish there be any risk regarding the possibility of these new women from accessing the criminal justice they themselves were afforded.

CrowdJustice has an all-or-nothing deadline, such that should we not meet the present target, none of your pledges can be collected. However, if the page cannot be promoted, the target cannot be met. As such we have made the decision to lower the target to £11,300 and close the page until the criminal case is concluded. We will work with our clients to fundraise for the rest of the case expenses in some other way.

OP posts:
AWeeNameChange · 11/10/2024 16:23

Hi @nothingcomestonothing will the women/campaign definitely receive that £11,300?

(my pledge came out of account as I’m typing this 😆 so assuming so!)

Hoping that CrowdJustice takes a look at it’s all or nothing policy and how that might be impacting on the likes of sexual abuse cases given how often the publicity of one case lends courage to other victims to come forward.

Thank you for the update and hope for justice for all the victims/survivors 💐

Please let us know if any further gardening can happen once this live case is concluded.

nothingcomestonothing · 11/10/2024 16:44

Yes then campaign gets the £11300, they changed the target to the amount it was already at so they could collect those pledges and close the campaign while the other offences are going through the system.

Thanks to all who've gardened and lets hope for justice for the two further victims as well as these eight women.
