Family annihilators are usually husbands and fathers, now they are sons.

Not particularly wanting to discuss the recent case but I feel this is happening more often ie sons being the perpetrators.

A man has appeared in court charged with the murders of his mother and two siblings at a block of flats.

As Mr Prosper was led away from the dock, a man stood up to look him in the eye and said: “I still love you son, I know it’s not your fault ok.”

This rather grim report about the number of parents who face abuse from children goes out of its way not to say what % of parents are male or female, not does it indicate the sex of the children that are violent. What a waste of an opportunity to try and identify whether it is more likely to be sons than daughters of whether all teenagers go through a period of rage? Confused

In which case, I think we can safely assume that the majority of men because you know that if the majority or even half were women, then the report would state that.

The 'counting dead women' twitter feed has a shocking amount of women killed by sons. Often the mothers are elderly.

Yep, and they do data analysis at the end of each year too - I'm sure they id'd increased son to mother violence as a trend, and also grandson violence. Fucking horrifying.

With the ongoing collapse of CAMHS, and the number of kids going for years without diagnosis/treatment, I'm concerned that this is going to be more of a trend.

More young people will kill themselves, and more young people will kill others.

Not to underplay the role of misogyny and the greater propensity towards male violence. But I think the failure of CAMHS is a big factor that will lead to more of these terrible events.

Agreed about CAMHS, but I also wonder how much casual drug use, eg cannabis, has played into this situation. There's a documented link between cannabis use and poor mental health developing. Mix that with the toxic combination found in social media algorithms and I despair.

The suspect has been named by the PSNI as Nathan Simpson, and he is charged with the murder of his mother, Rachel Simpson, at her home on the Castlereagh Road last Friday.

Police officers discovered Rachel's body in the garage when they went to the home following a 'concern for safety' report.

Following the short court appearance, it was reported that the 21-year-old "had been released from prison seven days before".

This just so awful. I wonder if he was on of the prisoners given early release.
